Just legal extortion. Cut them a check and they’ll go away like always.
If it's Harold Schoeffler, it won't be that easy. He will see it through until he dies.

I just don’t understand why there is uproar over an un-used swath of marsh. SpaceX will be a good steward and bring millions to the local tax base. If SpaceX wasn’t coming then it’s just an extension of poverty as usual. And for what? So some old mouth breathers can duck hunt undisturbed?
If the benefits are so apparent, why the need to do back room deals in secrecy?
For the record, I am not for, or against, the Spacex deal and I'm a conservative voter.
But the fact remains, most deals done in hiding tend to be done so for a reason...

The suit says the police jury revived the Vermilion Parish Industrial Development Board, inactive since 1997, at a July 15 meeting. On Aug. 25, the board approved a payment-in-lieu-of-taxes agreement with SpaceX tied to a 25-year property tax exemption estimated at nearly $24 billion. The agenda referred to the deal only as “Project Osprey,” a code name the suit says was used so that “even if a member of the public happened across the meeting notice, they wouldn’t know what the meeting was about.”
This isn’t a violation of the open meeting law. They advertised the meeting and agenda. It isn’t a violation to code name a project. This won’t make it past motion to dismiss.

Will Elon pull out? His pull out skills are famously weak but he may make an exception with crazy LA.
No. This was always going to happen. Almost every large project faces some threat or actual litigation. It’s baked into the cost. They rarely go anywhere unless there’s a fairly serious coalition of citizens or some people who are politically connected are pissed they didn’t get their cut.

This is why we can’t have nice things
Is it too much to ask to want nice things and a non-corrupt government?
Maybe we would trust the secrecy / NDAs if the politicians did not a history of screwing the people.

You are an idiot if you think every business deal between a company and a government is public record. There’s good reason for NDA’s.
I’m sick of room temp IQ Louisiana locals whining.

This. Why keep it secret? The blue hairs won't matter if you just do it the right way. Open meetings. Public comments. Submit the proper environmental reports. We all know the bribed class of LA politicians won't reject it, so why even give this opening to the opposition? Oh noz, poor Elon might not be able to get it done on his schedule! Now all it takes is a couple of sympathetic judges to cause the same delay. Its just short sightedness for quicker profit/payoff/bribe. Typical LA bullshite, which is likely 70% of the reason Elon is coming to LA anyway.
Just quoting to make sure this is read again. Its going to have the votes no matter what is said, but we should expect our public officials to be open and honest with the public. I saw someone say its ok to use a code name for a public project, ok. What if it was in your rural parish and it was a landfill under a code name, would you still be ok with it?

Whatever dude.
The graft and corruption in this state at a political level still plagues us to this day.
Now, if you’re claiming a corporate entity, that is getting a 25 year property tax break, is doing so for purely altruistic reasons, you may want to reconsider who is the idiot.
