WWYD: casinos and gambling addicts

So, my brother lives in Houston and is married to a gambling addict. It’s never been a big deal as they’ve only made a handful of trips to Lake Charles ever. Each time tho he’ll wake up in the middle of the night and she won’t be there. He’ll walk down and see her at the blackjack table not able to call it quits. It’s akways been more of a running joke as we’re talking losing a few hundred bucks, etc and not a regular habit.
So the last couple of days her and a couple girlfriends went on a trip to Lake Charles. One has parents there. The girlfriends came back yesterday and she was not with them and had refused to leave. My brother was irate.
He drives to Lake Charles to get her only to find out she has ran up over $30,000 in debt between credit cards and house credit in 2.5 days!!!!
He tries talking to the casino ‘manager’ about recouping some of it (I chuckled) but was not successful. I’m sure that was a long drive back to Houston. Granted, they’re not poor but far from being able to throw $30K in the trash.
He’s asking family for help. WWYD?

Better get out before she bankrupts him.

I would completely cut off every access she has to money and demand she seek help. If that doesn't work or if she doesn't like it...I would divorce her.

Prays sent. I know a few people like that and it's a dam shame. He needs to get her some help ASAP.

I would give her another line of credit to win it all back.

This is precisely the reason I have always lobbied against legalized gambling. It destroys individuals. It destroys families. It destroys communities. It destroys society as a whole.
The only ones who support legalized gambling are those who profit from it either in terms of money or power. There are others who delude themselves that gambling is opportunity. Still others, like the moronic self described “libertarians” who will foolishly argue that legalized gambling equates to freedom. Next to the degenerates who destroy their lives and their families the only others I pity as much are those who believe legalized gambling, casinos, sport betting, lottery or even bingo, helps to fund social programs like public education. Easily manipulated morons like these have the ability to vote, truly one of the weaknesses of our Republic.
She needs to be in rehab as this is an addiction. Gamblers Anonymous may help. She should have no access to money and should be kept away from those who tempt her.

The problem is though where do you draw the line? Alcohol, shopping, food...?

Divorce and cut his loss now.

if your brother KNEW his wife had a gambling problem, why in God's green earth did she have access to credit and debit cards! Your brother should give his wife like 20$ CASH a day and make that her allowance.
Also, he needs to get his wife on the Gambling Addiction List. If so, it becomes illegal for her to win or lose at a casino. And, she would be charged with trespassing if she entered a casino. She could lose a fortune, go get her money back, then be sent to jail.

What other measures do you support to tell people how to live their lives? Alcohol? Smoking? Fast food? Please tell me what else I should stop doing to gain your approval
