It’s the kind of sickness that secretly clears out your savings and has them stealing your debit card in the middle of the night to make withdrawals.

WWYD: casinos and gambling addictsSo, my brother lives in Houston and is married to a gambling addict. It’s never been a big deal as they’ve only made a handful of trips to Lake Charles ever. Each time tho he’ll wake up in the middle of the night and she won’t be there. He’ll walk down and see her at the blackjack table not able to call it quits. It’s akways been more of a running joke as we’re talking losing a few hundred bucks, etc and not a regular habit. So the last couple of days her and a couple girlfriends went on a trip to Lake Charles. One has parents there. The girlfriends came back yesterday and she was not with them and had refused to leave. My brother was irate. He drives to Lake Charles to get her only to find out she has ran up over $30,000 in debt between credit cards and house credit in 2.5 days!!!! He tries talking to the casino ‘manager’ about recouping some of it (I chuckled) but was not successful. I’m sure that was a long drive back to Houston. Granted, they’re not poor but far from being able to throw $30K in the trash. He’s asking family for help. WWYD?

Man, I am not trying to be funny but you've said they are not poor and I am telling you they are not close to rich enough for this affliction. Gambling is the most expensive addiction by far. Truthfully, no one can do $30k worth of drugs in a 72 hr period. And $30k is not even close to the limit of what she can lose. Good luck to your bro dude.

I have seen it too. They sign markers then start pushing $100 bets and play the martingale betting method. Next thing you know they have a $12K bet on the table to get that $100 win. That's only doubling up 7 times and people do it. It's nuts to watch.

Some get lucky and win but the majority don't which is crazy because everyone I talk to wins all the time.

On a side note, my GF plays baccarat and that's all she does. She has a strict betting and tracking system she follows and she wins overall every week so it can be done but the majority of the people aren't that disciplined and also the majority of people are looking for home runs and get rich quick which is probably what happens to addicts. They want the thrill more than the money. Mine bets small and wins small but just like poker, it's all about money management if you have the capacity to do it.

100% true

But this seems like the husband fault for even ALLOWING her to go on a girls trip to a CASINO with a known GAMBLING PROBLEM... it makes no sense

If they gave her markers it is possible he could negotiate those down if he is willing to threaten the casino with targeting a problem gambler.

No ... it doesn’t work like that at all

Unmarried but my experience is most attractive women focus on things like fitness or dogs than learning how to gamble

What a ridiculous statement. So attractive women in your experience do not know how to gamble or have fun in a casino? I'm not talking about high stakes poker games

Some casinos look at your bank accounts before giving you markers.

i believe it's all, unless you're dealing with a shady indian reservation casino

Yea I get it but I said overall she is up. She doesn't win all the time. She might have an off day but at the end of the week she is up. She has been doing it for 8 years now and I didn't believe it at first either but I see the results.

i used to be the only lawyer in LC that had a page on his website for gambling markers. i got dozens of calls a week

I didn't say anything of the sort

Besides, you don't have to be asain to play. Plenty of white and mexican people playing baccarat now.

Do they have kids?

If not, I'm out homie.

If so, it would be cheaper to pay child support and I'm still out homie.

What can really be done to fight them, though?

Or did you just negotiate them down?
