My wife does this (as did my mom and grandma). I thought this was standard procedure for most folks? (Spin off thread from the taking the wife’s name).

Mary Anne Smith married Bill Johnson.

Now she goes by Mary Smith Johnson (no hyphen).

It is common.

In the case you used t much, I’d imagine it’d be Mary-Anne smith Johnson

This is why most women don’t have middle names I think

It helps their old boyfriends find them on Facebook.

I don’t think this is true.

My wife did this , for one reason she said she never liked her middle name.

Mine did it, I’m always reminding her she’s missing an initial on all documents and monograms. “You forgot the 4th letter”

My buddy's wife kept her middle name solely for the reason that if she used her maiden name her initials would have been arse...keeping her middle name now they are ACS.

My wife's parents did not give her a middle name because they said it was pointless because girls drop it anyway and use their maiden names instead.

My wife did this because her mom is trash and spelled her middle name Renae instead of just Renée. She hated it, she also gave her an -leigh on the end of her first name as well.

We don’t speak to that pos.

My wife did not, I hope my daughter does though.

I wish it was more of a thing actually. Shows the link between two families.

It's more common in the South. As someone from the Midwest, most married women just changed their last name and kept their middle name. My wife and most of her friends changed their middle name to their maiden name. I think it's just a personal preference and the tradition from whatever region you're from.

My wife opted to keep her middle name, because using her maiden name as her middle name would make her full name sound like the Latin taxonomy of an exotic bird species.

Apparently, context is important
