Before I got married I was the only person to have my first name/last name combo (due to unusual spelling of last name and not a super common first name which also has alternate spellings). One of my children is the same way.

My maternal line all passes down their middle name and they all keep it after marriage (marie). It has kind of become like a surname that stays in the family.
My wife and inlaws all moved the maiden name to middle name.
