Why is there no longer any political will for big public works projects?

After a flurry of activity a few months ago, talk of a new BR bridge has died off. It is without doubt the #1 public works priority in this state. I don't see how there is any legitimate argument otherwise.
But nobody wants to pay for it. People in Shreveport don't want to pay for a bridge in BR. Hell, there are people in BR who don't give two shits about it. "How does it affect me?"
This is where so called "movement conservatism" has gone off the rails. There is no unified political will for infrastructure like there was 50-60 years ago when all these highways and bridges were getting built. Nobody likes big state government, but you think Texas lets politics get in the way of big public works projects? shite no.

Corruption and mismanagement of funds.

Because they require tax money, which usually means a tax increase somewhere.

There’s a will. There is just no trust in the elected politicians to actually get it done in an effective, timely manner

Because most big infrastructure projects are more likely to affect your children's commute than your own.

Have you seen how the LA government fricked up the new airport terminal and how it’s going to take until 2046 to complete the zoo?
People have zero faith in their government.
Plus, they know the cost will be twice as much as projected.

This.
If the government is involved, corruption and graft are guaranteed.

Louisiana politicians are the dirtiest in the country. They lie, cheat, and steal to get taxes put in and then immediately pay people off right in front of the taxpayers. It is obvious the infrastructure is not where it needs to be, but only an idiot tried to fill a broken bucket with water.

You ever looked up the tax rate that led to the Boston Teaparty? Make your powdered wig curl comparing that to todays taxation!

Probably because so much money and time goes into studies, consulting, overruns, etc. Plus someone protests every damn thing that's proposed.
Stuff that used to take months and done cheap now are incredibly expensive and take years.

Capital Area Road and Bridge District Website
It's gotten much more steam than it has ever had before. Even an extension for 415 has been approved recently after talk of it for over 50 years.

BR folks need to allow a 3rd party like NTTA here in Dallas to make a super speedway like we have here in the 635 Texpress.
But LA will never have anything nice because people for some reason are offended when a toll is brought up.

Public works projects need taxes to pay for them, so if you want increased taxes, keep bringing this up.

Not to mention terrible efficiency everywhere else.
Monarchies don't usually have this kind of problem with efficiency.

Has nothing to do with political philosophy.
99.9% of conservatives in this state would support public works if it was guaranteed not to be a corrupt clusterfrick that will end up costing 3x what it should and still ending up half-assed.
