Driving north for a 1000 miles makes me sad for our State
Alabama, Kentucky, Ohio; the economies there are booming.
Judging by the number of leisure travelers with boats, RVs, and nice vehicles it is easy to see their local populations are doing fantastic.
Sunday traffic through these areas is like 80% rush hour in Baton Rouge, but of course the drivers are better.

OP is onto something. This college having "below average academics" is terrible.
From now on EVERY college needs to be ABOVE AVERAGE!! When we add them all up, and divide by them, they BETTER all be above the average!

Not everyone wants to commute 1hr+ to NOLA or Baton Rouge to school everyday. Nicholls is a suitcase college, large majority of students live at home/hometown.
ETA: my mother and brother both graduated from Nicholls. It absolutely serves a purpose and is very beneficial to the people of the area

Nicholls also leads the Southeastern US in sadomasochistic colonel mascots.

T-town is charming in its own right and a great place to race a family if your profession can fit a small town.
Don’t hate on it for the sake of being an arse.

Then these students should enroll in community college. If after two years of community college you can't commit to commuting or moving an hour away from your parents house then maybe a college education isn't something you take serious anyway so why bother.

Grumbling, SUNO, and Southern should be defunded well before a university like Nicholls.
that doesn’t mean Nicholls shouldn’t be shut down too

You can say the same about 90% of the satellite campuses for the LSU and ULL systems.
There is no ULL system. It's the UL system, of which no one school can claim flagship status.

Google US News and World Report Rankings
Look at the pages for Southeastern and Nicholls
Nicholls is ranked #100 among Southern Regional Schools.
LINK
Southeastern is ranked somewhere between #107 and #141. Past a certain point, they don’t rank specifically.
LINK
Neither school is ranked high enough to be nationally ranked. But again, let’s stop pretending that Southeastern is a “better” school than Nicholls. They are in the same class of school. If you want to split hairs, Nicholls is ranked higher.

For you doubters here it is. In 2018, Nicholls spent less than 10 million a year and had a 400k surplus.
According to that link of the $9.6mil in revenue, 36.51% ($3.5mil) came from the football team.
Of the $3.5mil revenue from the football team, 62.41% ($2.2mil) came from direct institutional support and student fees.
Which means that Nichols athletics is not self funded. More than 20% of the athletic department's total revenue came from the university. And that's assuming no other sport receives student fees or institutional support. The article only shows football revenue.
Again, less than 30 college athletic departments operate with no direct contribution from their university. And even fewer operate without the use of student fees.
USA Today table of NCAA finances. It's dated, but the "Total Allocated" column is money received by the athletic department from the university and student fees.
ETA: Sorry, didn't realize this was actually in the link you provided:
quote:
An athletics fee of $10 per credit hour, with a maximum of $120 for full-time students, is added to tuition payments. Students paid $2.6 million toward those fees last year, while the university gave another $2.5 million to its athletic department.
Football was the largest recipient, with almost $1.3 million given by students and the school combined.
So there, over 53% of the athletic "revenue" came from the university. That's not being self funded.

we need the Nicholls, UL-Ls, and SELUs around so that the party monsters from LSU have a place to pick up a couple of easy As in the summer to drag that GPA back up a bit

I've seen a lot of the state colleges in LA. Nicholls isn't even on my radar to close
SUNO
Grambling
We should also privatize McNeese, LSU-A, Southern and Northwestern State

Credits from those school do not easily transfer over.

nicholls is perfect for the bayou community.
You can get the education you need without leaving the bayou or needing to shack up in a dorm. You can go to school and be home everyday. I would not have got my degree if I had to go to any other school.
plus you dont have to deal with yankees.
