LSU can be a big culture shock for some who come from Golden Meadow, Dulac, Napolenville and other surrounding smaller “bayou” towns.
Maybe in the 70’s and 80’s. We’re not as sheltered as we used to be. We got electricity and all now, Mrs. Fancy city lady

3 pages and no love or hate for McNeese?
McNeese is, at least, in a metro area (Calcasieu, Cameron, Beauregard, Allen, and Jeff Davis) of about 300k
it's also located in the only area of LA that has a legit, growing economy/GDP
Nicholls has like 1/10 the endowment of MSU, also ($80M v. $8.5M)
McNeese can be discussed as a place that needs to get leaner, but Nicholls is WAY ahead of McNeese on the chopping block

I alway thought the University in the Waterboy was meant to be Nicholls but no one in the state wanted to be part of it so they came up with South Central Louisiana State University.
Ironically, there is a state agency that uses the South Central Louisiana naming scheme.

Nichols was a long way from Baton Rouge in 1948; before the Interstate and Mississippi River bridges. That being said, it is pretty redundant now.

Even before Nicholls, we have three 4 year universities across the I-20 corridor
3 Universities in a 1.5 hour drive
3 Universities in a 1.5 hour drive

Nicholls until the 1950's was a two year junior college in the LSU system. The school, and several others like it, should be closed without delay.

Lemme guess: And the money redirected to LSU right??
Piss off

I take it you didn't get accepted, guess you can go the University of Phoenix route.

yeah there needs to be real consolidation of redundancies
like, you see it in this thread with "nursing programs". EVERY small little school always talks about their nursing program. if they're all so good, then we don't need so many campuses and we can merge programs
Tech and ULM need to merge into a big LA Tech campus. That will be the NE-regional campus. ULM's pharmacy school needs to merge with the medical school at LSU-S
MSU is the SWLA campus. ULL is the south-central campus. LSU/UNO serve the 2 major metro areas.
we have to figure out what to do with SELU/NSU. there is just no reason why we need either school as 4-year universities. SELU, NSU, and MSU, if they ren't closed, need to have very limited 4-year options and primarily serve as 2-year feeder schools for the bigger campuses (ULL, LSU).
SUNO needs to be shut down. we have 2 public HBCUs, one is an hour away. no reason for SUNO

Louisiana has too many 4 year universities for its size. Piss off!

why wouldn't we direct student populations to our main campuses (LSU, ULL, a consolidated Tech, etc)?

Jokes aside, Nicholls has a really good Nursing program and a great culinary program. You be surprised how many top chefs in NOLA graduated from that program.

We all know there are far too many "colleges" in Louisiana.
You know, I know it, the people working there know it, and lawmakers know it. This has been true for a long, long time.
And yet, nothing is done. Not now, not ever.
That's the Louisiana Way.

Not everyone wants to commute 1hr+ to NOLA or Baton Rouge to school everyday. Nicholls is a suitcase college, large majority of students live at home/hometown.

Now, community colleges primarily offer 2 year degrees. So, what percent of students that step onto RPCC’s campus actually have a degree 2 years later?
This is where you messed up.
I'd bet the majority of students who go there are getting exactly what they want out of the school and that's not a 2 year degree.
