Why does Louisiana suck?

No it doesn’t actually suck, quite the contrary in my opinion, but why does it suck according to basically all formal metrics?
Honestly is it intentional by the 0.1% political / old money / uber-wealthy class?

It's a poorly managed state. Poor education as well.
FWIW I love Louisiana but I'm a Texican.

Because formal metrics measure things that actually don't matter when all is said and done, and your life's been lived.

Very poorly managed. With industry and access to the river, it should be a thriving state. Money is wasted constantly by the government.

If Louisiana would just treat its leadership like it treats LSU athletics....Louisiana would thrive.

The reason it sucks is because the money that should be invested into infrastructure, schools, and growing business here is miss allocated or outright stolen.
That is why there are no large corporations here and will never get fortune 500 companies to make this their home office.
It is actually quite sickening how rich LA is as a state with oil and gas and the other natural resources LA has, but all of the money is lining a small % of the populations pockets.

The state has alway has lackluster leadership. That seems to be slowly changing as this govenor has made the state more maga and is brining in many and diversified industries. Over 200 billion in 2 years.

South of I-10, everything is built on top of mud, not bedrock. This is expensive to maintain.
Every few years a hurricane blows in and does millions in damage.
We pay more than a lot of places, just to maintain infrastructure, and a lot more than those places trying to rebuild infrastructure.
Basically once every generation, we're just trying to get made whole. Forget about advancing.

You are not wrong here, but LA was given $8 billion after Katrina for infrastructure repairs and we may have gotten $3-$4 billion worth of work. Where did the rest of the money go? One being the wall in Chalmette and some reinforcement of the levees and pumps at the Lake.
The city & state drug their feet for 20 years and there is still bilions that are unaccounted for.

In 1991 Louisiana was trying to make gambling legal. The majority of voters were against it.
The Fat Cats in our government promised that the profits would all go to education. foR ThE cHilDRen!!!
That convinced people to vote for it.
At the last minute, the fat cats changed the bill so the profits went to a "general fund".
Guess how much money went to edkashion? No visible amount.
And the people just took it. Because the good people of Louisiana have been getting screwed by their politicians since Reconstruction. It's the way it is.
That type of corruption can be seen everywhere you look in the state. And the acceptance of that corruption is why I'll never move back there.

Louisiana has immense potential. But it will never be realized unless the good ole boy system is done away with and accountability is restored for criminals.

I don't disagree, but are there any states where government hasn't dropped the ball?

Yep. Prime example of what corrupt politicians can do with an under educated population

Historically, Louisiana has been run by a politically connected ruling class which has been satisfied with managing their own fiefdoms. As long as these fiefdoms are maintained financially and politically, they're satisfied.
This has been culturally solidified due to the minimal amount of turnover and migration that Louisiana sees (70%+ of residents are native-born). Which is why you get the comments of "Louisiana is poorly managed".
Minimal new innovation from the outside and protectionism result in a status-quo mindset. This has state-wide effects but can even been seen at the micro level in certain parishes & municipalities (i.e. "the Hebert Family has run this Parish for decades").
I've always summed this up in that the ruling class in Louisiana would rather control 100% of $9 for life than 10% of $100 with the opportunity to go to $200.

At the current moment, Louisiana is one of the best places to live.

The fact a lot our population is OK killing each other over twenty dollars doesn't help. Our population base is not attractive to any major industry looking to relocate.

Poor. Fat. Stupid.
The average Louisiana resident meets at least 2 of the 3 above criteria.

All depends on what your priorities are and what makes you happy. I’ve lived in several states Across the south. They are very much the same in many ways just various cultural differences.
