From a local standpoint I get it. I understand why people close to the situation would be emotionally invested in the case.

Nationally though? I find it strange when people become emotionally invested in these cases and obsess about it, then claim it’s because they care about the life of the children. But what about all those other children who go missing that you couldn’t give a shite about?

I guess I find it sad because a lot of kids go missing and few people from a national standpoint actually care unless the case is “fun” or interesting enough.

I don't think it's any more complicated than this. Everyone loves a good mystery.

Hell, people are still talking about a serial killer of prostitutes in the slums of 19th century London.

I found a video the last time there was a thread on this with the lead investigator detailing out his theory and it made a ton of sense and aligned with all the evidence. In his theory it was the mom that killed her.

Why do we care about O.J. Simpson??????



People are killed everyday.. and there is nothing said.... We had to go through over a year of bullshite just to see him found not guilty of a crime HE DID commit.........

To me it is about the time period it happened in and all of the details surrounding it. Just like the Columbine school shooting. Now a days, it is not so surprising (sadly) to hear a shooting at a public venue such as schools, movie theaters, etc. I feel like the time period had a major role. The Ramseys being a successful family, daughter doing beauty pageant, and the suspicion around the whole case made it what it is today. Plus everyone loves a good mystery.

I'd probably say that is why. Combine all that with the economic status of the family plus the clusterfrick of an investigation the Boulder PD and the DA's office conducted. Throw in that it is still unsolved...boom. American murder mystery.

CNN was founded in 1980,, 24 hour news was relatively new.
every show needed something to discuss this was it..

plus with it unsolved it continues to be a curiosity
