While living in Phoenix, golf carts were not allowed on streets where the speed limit was at or above 35 mph.
Yet they had bike lanes on the larger streets.
I never figured that out.

I see it too. A lot of cyclists don't know and do dumb shite. But typically your serious riders care. Every ride I've been on with a group usually reviews dangerous parts of the road coming up. Reminds people to stop at intersections, etc. Local shop ride usually has a ride leader who says "they already hate us, let's not give them an actual reason".
Now spend some time on a bike, and you'll see how many cars break the law because "you shouldn't be on the road anyway". So who cares if they run you off the road passing you illegally. Never had that (run off the road part, definitely had unsafe passes) happen until two weeks ago when a truck caused a teenage girl in our group to eat pavement.
Not trying to take all cyclists side, just saying it's not only the cyclists doing unsafe shite.

It's amazing that there are so many people bitching about cyclists when there are plenty worse drivers on the road.
Hell, I've seen a few motorcycles hop onto sidewalks because they didn't want to feel like they were running the red lights on the road.

There is a two-lane, winding and hilly road with no shoulder near my house. I see cyclists on it regularly. These are the people I don't understand. Because I ride occasionally, I slow and move over to avoid them. I would never put myself in that situation though.

All roads are dangerous when your selfish road hogging self is on them.
But seriously, I think most bikers take the safest roads they can find, ones out in the county that tend to be less traveled and are relatively flat and wide open.

Not 2 minutes ago, I just saw a dipshit riding down my street on one of those lay down recumbent bikes. He was about 2 ft off the ground and flew through a stop sign. I live a few miles from campus but you can assume the drunks are out in full force right now.

They don't wonder. They know why. Because too many car drivers are morons, texters, on xanax and White Zinfandel, or are just assholes.
Bikers take their chances, just like the rest of us. Moron drivers are a menace to us all.
But like for pedestrians and other unprotected travelers, folks need to cut bikers some slack. It won't cost but a few seconds that they will burn at the next red light anyway.

Hence 'some' in the title which includes the dingbat riding on a 4 lane 45-55 mph urban road yesterday morning when everyone was going to work.

Directed at those who bitch about having to wait to pass cyclists: Next time you have to wait to pass a cyclist, check how much time you had to wait. Then laugh at yourself for getting bent out of shape over a few seconds.
