I'm all for registering bikes and requiring some sort of test to take them on to public streets. (At least for 18+)

Magazine street is notorious for this. Only a moron would risk car doors on one side and so many female drivers in SUVs on the other and pedestrians crossing anywhere they like.

Parents responsibility. Maybe not let them on public roads, but that gets tough with neighborhoods on municipal welfare turning their private streets into public roadways.

Yes, people in cars do break traffic law. We're all aware. Honest people can admit that people on bicycles are less likely to follow traffic law than people in a car. Its ingrained from childhood.

I make the argument because it continues to hold true. You can't say cyclists don't belong on the road because they break the law too much if cars are breaking that law with the same frequency. That's all I'm saying.
Saying cyclists are "less likely" to follow laws is subjective to the environment. Yes, I think they probably are less likely to follow the law in neighborhoods or gridlike surface streets and that's a problem. But on the country roads I ride or major roadways, I definitely don't think cyclists are less likely to follow the rules. It's not like we do the realize we are vulnerable. We don't expect cars to go out of their way for us. And "most" try to do everything they can do to stay safe. When you get behind one in a car, people get prissy and want to complain about everything, so they try to make cyclists transgressions way worse than other cars. It's as simple as that.

Most cities now have bike trails. No need for them to be on a 2 lane road impeding traffic.

If you are on a road bike training for a race you cannot ride as fast as you want on a bike trail. Not when most bike trails are actually multiuse trails and also used by those walking/jogging, skating, etc.

A car turning right or left because they have the light & right of way, but a dumb arse cyclist flys up the right side of stopped traffic at the red light while traffic is stopped by the light & the turning car has the light & right of way mows over dumbass cyclist who blows the red light = dumbass dead that is a huge issue. Sorry roadies preach it "same rules same road" but you might want to practice what you preach. Physics does play a small roll it may be your right but car vs bike does not ever end well. I don't know anyone that wants to live with killing a cyclist.

Bicyclists need to ride where they don't interfere with cars or impede traffic flow of motor vehicles. Lots of places to do this.

Well, based on the way you described the situation, you were definitely in the wrong and should have slowed down until it was safe to pass with at least a 3ft window between you and the cyclists.
