Only talking situations relative to bikers and cars. Out on I-77 that's another story altogether for these NASCAR wannabes.

You are a fricking idiot. "Buzzing" a cyclist isn't funny at all. Think they are an a hole for riding on a road that impedes traffic. But putting their life in serious danger because you don't agree with it is stupid. And you are literally putting their life in actual danger.

Some cyclist break laws, but it's highly exaggerated, especially here. It does happen and I see it, but it's highlighted bug time due to your dislike. My favorite is "they think they own the road". How is that? By being out there when then law says it's perfectly fine means, "I own this road". Or is it that a car thinks they own the road and they shouldn't have to wait behind any cyclist! Impeding traffic is such a weak argument too. If someone really is doing that, it's really assholish. But on average, a person is behind me for 1t seconds. I've never had a person stuck behind me for more than 2 or so minutes (and I've quit riding with that group because it was too big and I felt it was kind of unfair to motorists). 2 minutes isn't screwing up your life.

But you know what does happen, cyclist have a car try to pass them on a 35 mph road. Except a cars coming the opposite wayou. Driver can't make so floors it doing 55+ and squeezes cyclists off road. It was obviously unsafe for the truck to go, the car was easy to see. But frick the cyclist, do they think they own the road or something. Or same situation when the car comes to a head on stop facing oncoming traffic. I literally watched a car bumper to bumper in the wrong lane trying to pass a group. But I bet they never once blamed themselves for driving like an idiot. No it was the cyclists fault. Or the countless people who pull out right in front of me, even on closed race courses where cops are telling them no. They still feel they have the right when roads are partially closed off for us.

Every cyclist knows they take a chance, just as every motorcycle rider does. Doesn't excuse drivers who need to follow the law and be safe. If you do that as a driver, and the cyclist does their part, it's not dangerous at all.

Now after all that, I have to say I just don't come across that many traffic issues (Impeding, etc.). Mostly because I will not ride roads that cars can't get around me, whether from traffic or space. But still, there are issues with cars. Never from them not seeing me (although that's one I worry about). Even the people that pull out in front clearly see me. They just don't respect your right to be there and do what they want. Cause an accident and it's your fault for being out there. You have people "buzz" you when they are the only car you've seen in a half an hour and their is unlimited space to pass. People are assholes.

These two lane roads around here have 55mph limit and some very steep grades and sharp curves. Of course some dick bag host huge events all the time so even when there isn't one we always have people riding for practice or whatever. Get stuck behind them in the wrong spot and you're stuck behind them for miles. Not to mention the dangers of when I have a heavy load behind my truck and I round a curve and they are 3-4 wide and it's a group of 20 stretched out over a half mile.

I would say pretty much ALL cyclists break laws, some are just honest about admitting it.

I know I roll through stop signs when I ride. It sucks stopping for them. I usually try not to run red lights because people fly through those.

Honestly, you sound like someone who rides places like river road or airline, places that don't have big car/cyclist interaction.

With you on this I rode professionally from 15-18 and was blown away by much less skilled and capable cyclists riding on these roads where it's a clear danger especially when they would just be by themselves

They're all alike. It seems like they're trying to prove a point. Truth is a bunch of them are dying for their own foolish ego.

I never said everyone's 100% perfect. But the rolling through the stop sign is the same thing you see cars do. 4 way stop in the middle of nowhere, cars going to slow down, and when they see no one, proceed without coming to a complete stop 50+% of the time. It gets blown out of proportion when it's a cyclist though.

Now I have seen on a few occasion cyclist blowing through stop signs where cars are there. They deserve a kick to the face.

I said it before, I try to be courteous, so I don't ride high traffic roads where I'll be a problem. I complain about people riding stupid places as well. But I take offense to the "they shouldn't be there", "they think they own the road", and "they have a death wish and are just out there to prove they can be". It's a hobby and a healthy lifestyle. Cities on the up and up highly support it. The stories of coming up behind them on a curve I don't have time to stop just mean you are driving dangerously. What if a tree fell across the road? You should be able to stop completely. That's why they have those signs saying to go slower through the turn. You carrying a heavier load, drive appropriately. I agree it may not be convenient, just saying if you do your part and they do theirs, it's not all that unsafe.

There's one hefty baw I see almost daily on the ride home from work. He's always crossing the little bridge that goes over the interstate in Essen and ends on Jefferson. He may as well ride in the lane considering there isn't much room, and traffic backs up because of him.

Or quit breaking the law and bitching when other people break the law.

I'm not bitching about anyone breaking the law, nor saying anyone should. I'm merely saying that the hatred for cyclists is often followed by the reasoning that they all break the law. I'm pointing out that no one says anything when cars do the same shite. So that's not a valid argument against cyclist. I never bitched about cars doing something illegal so we should be able to as well. Just that you can't use that argument against cyclist. (This is not referencing when cyclists blow through high traffic intersections).

You have to realize my first statement in this thread was against cyclists riding in stupid places. And I even say that I see people breaking laws.

I get nervous about doing something "wrong" when I'm out there. I've been hit by a car that ran a red light (not cycling). I want to be safe as possible. I will not blow through intersections and am damned careful even when I have a green light. Still, with all the care I take, cars get pissy. I'm just pointing out that there is no winning even if I poke holes in 95% of opposing arguments. People don't want bikes out there if it delays them as little as 15 seconds.

Another thing to note is most "cyclists" in urban area's aren't what I'm thinking of. Those are commuters or people just crusing. I'd never ride in an area like that since I would hate the stop and go.

There should be a posted max and min speed limits on all highways.

La. 30 past Lee would be a great place to start.

I don't see how that is relevant to fact riding on a sidewalk at 25mph is inherently dangerous. If you're going out for a good ride, you simply must use a road or a dedicated bike trail if you happen to live in an area where one exists.

I've buzzed a couple on a Sunday morning once.

I had nowhere to go with oncoming traffic. They flipped me off like I was in the wrong.

That's because not only were you in the wrong, you were putting their lives in danger. If you don't have room to pass safely, you wait.

BTW you are required by law to do this and if your next "buzzing" kills a cyclist you may be charged with negligent vehicular homicide or the equivalent.

Kind of why I pointed out it was illegal to use a sidewalk.

Many of the posts in here reaffirms why I didn't buy a road bike and just got a hybrid instead for riding designated bike paths. Just don't trust having to share the road with drivers.

I was amazed in Lake Tahoe. The road that circles the lake has a ton of cyclists in it. And many areas with no shoulder at all, just guardrail and then cliff drop off. Yet they were riding on them not even phased by drivers going 50-60 mph around them.

My favorite is when they ride down busy highways even though there's residential streets parallel to it.
