Why do some bicyclists insist on riding on dangerous roads?

4 lanes, limited visibility, 55 mph. No big deal 'We have a right to be here'
And then they wonder why their dumbass gets hit

Because they know the law is on their side. What angered me is where I live there are plenty of sidewalks and bike paths but the bike riders still ride in the street.

Tell us more about these sidewalks

Even worse are the 3AM runners on the 45MPH+ roads. Stay in the frickin neighborhood you tool.

Although I agree there are some roads cyclists should avoid (I call people dumbass all the time), I also realize that drivers just don't want cyclists on the road. So people are going to complain about every road as being too dangerous.
The sidewalk thing is dumb. I'm hitting speeds of 27 mph regularly. Wayyyy more dangerous to do that. If a car drives safely and respects the right of the cyclist to be there (i.e. don't try to pass in a sketchy situation that they would never do if it was a motorcyclist or car) then it's much safer on the road.

Do you wait in line at a red light or go to the front of the line?

My favorite ones are the cyclists who chose to ride on a busy two lane road during rush hour and hold up huge amounts of traffic because people can't pass.

Usually wait in line. Early mornings never have lines though. But if there's a shoulder, bikers have the right to use the shoulder and/or a turning lane to drive straight through the intersection when the light turns green. Typically ride on the shoulder the whole time anyway in that situation unless it's unsafe (debris, etc.)

It's amazing. I have never had a law breaking biker on this website.
yet every day there are at least a dozen I pass while riding through the city.

I honesty don't understand where the bicycle hate comes from. I've never had a problem slowing down or changing lanes for a few seconds to share the road. The oft-exaggerated cyclist hate is becoming tiresome.

Sounds like River Road at 5 p.m. on a weekday in Baton Rouge while I was in school. Maybe things have changed, but I doubt it.
