Mine was the same way, I finally signed him up for driver’s ed and helped him complete it so I could stop hauling him around.

I don’t get it, I got mine day one back in the day. Also drove a piece of crap Vega my dad probably got for $500 and was happy to get it

I was going to ask: "Are you a homosexual?" but I decided to check your post history and I got my answer:

Combination of laziness and just not giving a shite/no motivation.

I was chomping at the bit to get my permit when I was 15.

Bizarre to me, as someone who threw a fit because my parents went on a cruise the week I turned 16 and I had to wait an extra week to take my driving test.

Bizarre to me as well... but something has definitely changed. Not for the good either. Teenagers should definitely be craving and seeking independence and experiences, something strange going on that they aren't wanting to get out and explore the world, do stupid shite, get laid and whatever else.

So my son is 7 and I asked him about if he'd ever want to drive, and he was basically like why would I if the cars will just be able to drive me.

I don’t think people value freedom as much as they once did. That’s all it was about when I was a kid. Maybe they’re programmed by all the helicopter parents to be afraid of freedom.

I got mine on my 15th bday. I was counting down the years, months; days, hours for my freedom to drive.

Because it's a stepping stone in growing up and becoming independent and that goes against the grain of far too many of today's youth.

They want to suck off the parental tit until they are forcibly told to leave the nest because being on their own is too scary a thought for many of them.

You drive, you buy your gas, pay your insurance, pay for repairs and to do so you will need a job to afford that.

A car is not freedom anymore. Their parents are tracking them on their phones at all times.

My oldest daughter (no pics) is blind as a bat, so she’s very uncomfortable driving - but two of my sons drive and they don’t mind taking her places because they all hang out together.

My #4 kid can get his permit this summer. I’m not sure if he wants to drive, but big brothers do, so he does.

Times have changed. Everything is organized for them from the time they are on their first sports team all the way to high school. That incudes being carted around by parents. Rarely do kids hang out at the park or ride bicycles to visit friends and do things spontaneously. They are content to visit on social media or video games and do get out to see friends as often as older generations.

Im in the minority, but I think legal age should be 17 before they can drive. Kid's today are less mature than they were 20 years ago. There are exceptions but it is true for the majority. I work close to a high school and the way kids drive is scary. They do not have a clue how close they are to changing lives forever.

Probably a lot to do with the idiots in the F250s and dodge chargers that drive like maniacs. shite I feel like every time I drive now it's like I'm in the hunger games. Even when going to the store

Driving is frightening now a days. Instead of being a cooperative effort people are trying to hit you. Many drivers don’t seem to care. Amazing how many drivers don’t care whst they are doin.
