Rolex’s are an investment. They appreciate in value. You’re ignorant

when I can't sleep I watch Rolex breakdown and restoration videos on YT. Incredible stuff.
I assume you saw the 60 Minutes piece on that watchmaker in Switzerland. Fascinating to me.

Because we like them.

I’m not a watch guy but understand why people would want them. Nothing to judge someone for

I wear a Casio g shock or a citizen eco drive, depending on the day. I never have to plug the damned things in or charge them. I don't live or die on texts, phone calls or how many steps I have in. I have worn a watch my whole life and always will.

Why do people buy jewelry?

Why do people waste money on watches?
Posted on 12/31/25 at 10:46 am to WaydownSouth
I had pretty much stopped wearing watches for the reason mentioned…having the time readily available on my phone. Then I found myself at an outdoor festival carrying a couple of things with my phone in my pocket, needing to be at a session at a certain time. I realized it would be a lot easier to glance at a watch. So I asked for one for Christmas and replaced batteries in my old ones. Come to find out—I missed wearing one.

I used to think this until I started getting into really nice sneakers. Now I get it. Once you find something you like and want to grow the collection, you dive in. I do acknowledge it’s a dumb, money wasting hobby.

I have worn a watch since pre-cell phones so I use my watch to tell him in almost all circumstances. A very old habit I guess. I like the look of watches and have 5 (2 casual, 3 "dress"). I will keep buying them for sure. You like what you like.

When I read posts like OP’s I don’t think they are worrying. That’s a weird take.
I think it’s more of an anti-vanity post. It’s a false humility post to claim he makes only rational decisions as if he were a mere simple man.
I would bet most of the idiots with takes like the OPs have a car note

Timex, takes a licking and keeps on ticking, $40.00, my current one was bought in 2002.

omething that just tells time. Nothing more than a status symbol,
all we need is to cover our bodies. Why wear a nice collared shirt or a suit instead of just a potato sack? All we need to do is get from point A to B, why drive a fancy SUV or expensive truck instead of a 15 year old reliable white car that only costs $1K?

One of my customers ive been taking hunting for over 30 years gave me a Rolex GMT as tip on the 25th year id been taking him.
I only wear it on special occasions, it is an incredible piece of jewelry, more of a piece of art than anything.

I've loved watches ever since 1973 when my grandfather sat me on his knee and showed me his Omega and taught me how to use a tachymeter.
It's always been a part of me and I like everything from a casio or swatch to a high end swiss watch.

My guess is most millionaires Nextdoor have watches that cost less than 100 dollars and many wearing expensive watches have large debts.
But everybody gets to decide how to spend their money.

I'm on the move all day. I don't keep my phone on me. I do keep my watch on me. The few times I've forgotten my watch, I feel out of sorts all day.
That said, I'm not into watches and don't feel the need to spend exorbitantly on them. I do understand hobbies and collecting, however, and partake in my own luxury purchases.
