re: You want to know why HEB is great ?
Posted by offshoreangler on 12/13/25 at 9:38 am to Zappas Stache
Kroger and big box stores like Walmart and Target are pretty comparable in terms of quality of produce and meats…I shop at Kroger twice a year…when they deeply discount rib roasts.
In no world, if you live in Texas and have an HEB within a reasonable, convenient driving distance pick another grocery store. HEB’s produce, meat and seafood, bakery, deli, literally anything that doesn’t come prepackaged in a box are vastly superior there.
Hell I’d pick Joe V’s or Mi Tienda before I did my weekly grocery shopping at a Kroger.
And then of course, Central Market is the gold standard for walking into a grocery store, dropping 100 bones on three items and being completely ok with it.

I mean I get where you’re coming from in the sense that most aquaculture is terrible…but let’s not act like shrimp in the wild behave wildly differently in terms of diet.

I’m of Mexican heritage and was running the skreets of New Orleans all last week…didn’t see ICE or BORTAC at the Roosevelt, R&O’s, or Delacroix (great fried fish collars btw), or the movie theater in Elmwood.
Maybe they’ll get me come Christmas time at the family dinner at Herbsaint.

From 610 south or from Allen Parkway?
You’re doing it wrong if you’re driving up Kirby from the 610 south area.
If you’re coming from River Oaks…in no world does it take you 20 minutes.
I do it almost everyday…my kids go to ROE.

re: Gasoline..Is premium actually better than the others or is that fake?
Posted by offshoreangler on 9/28/25 at 7:07 pm to Geauxgurt
quote:
Tier of gasoline is more important. Generally Tier 2 is okay and Tier 1 is best, but all it is are additives to the gasoline that help keep the engine clean and perhaps give a little boost.
Let me let you in on a little secret…gasoline blenders aren’t in the business to create “tiers” of gasoline so they can feel better about themselves watching you choose a branded gas station versus the Quick Stop.
They are in the business of making as much money as possible, and what that ultimately means for you is the “top tier” gasoline you’re paying 3-6 cents extra a gallons for came out of the same storage tank that the Quick Stop is selling for less.
It all has to meet a standard…87 octane for RUL…how they get to that 87 octane is entirely up to them, but your gasoline was probably stepped on 2-3-4-5 different times by a commodities trader you’ve never heard of chasing the market.
The detergent additive (Techron just for ease of conversion) is where your tiering system comes in, but take that with a grain of salt…this is federally mandated…whether it’s Techron or a generic additive…you decide if you want to pay the 3-6 cents extra for a name brand.
I don’t, and I’ve been in the gasoline blending/terminaling business for over 15 years.
Buy from a station that is cheap that gets a lot of business.
re: Bludorn- Houston Recs
Posted by offshoreangler on 9/23/25 at 3:22 pm to Ash Williams
It’s been a good while since I’ve given Aaron Bludorn any of my hard earned money…but the short rib ravioli is the only thing on the menu currently that has stood out to me in the past.
The steaks are fine, he’s got a hard on for Ora King salmon so I’m sure that’s good…they used to do a lobster pot pie but I don’t see it on the current menu.
