re: Houston BBQ - Updated with pic
Posted by offshoreangler on 8/21/26 at 11:43 am to Cleathecat
Went to Terry Black’s for lunch today…best way I can describe it is BBQ for white people.
Everything, and I mean everything, lacked seasoning. Don’t waste your time here, eat at one of the local bbq joints.
Willow’s over in EaDo is next on the list to try…he was the original pit master at J-Bar-M but after they filmed Top Chef there, he and the owner/owners daughter got cross ways with each other. J-Bar-M is mid as hell now, but went it first opened and Willow was cooking, it was damn good.

I’m aware…but I specifically mentioned the tank battery fire they had…which would have been the one off of Battleground.

The ITC terminal off Battleground is in Deer Park homie….east of the beltway.

You’re right…it feels like Deer Park…unless you enjoy basking in the glow of the lights from the towers at PEMEX or breathing in the smoke from pygas storage tanks burning at ITC…I’ll stick to only spending 9 hours of my day here.

I’ve worked in Deer Park/Pasadena nearly all of my 18ish years in the industry…lived in The Montrose, Upper Kirby/River Oaks, and now Rice Military.
Guess it all depends on what you’re willing to part ways with each month on rent or a mortgage…and then what your interests are in your downtime.
The fricking traffic is the worst its ever been…25-30 minutes from where I’m at to work, but going home it’s damn near an hour everyday.

Cabo Bob’s or The Kebab Shop if you’re in a big city in Texas.

Interesting…good for Leonard suppose.
There needs to be an exchange of goods here…Charleston gets Truth and Houston gets Chubby Fish or The Ordinary in return.

I don’t mind Katie’s…the snapper collars there are great…and I like that you can get tilefish or yellow edge/snowy grouper almost always…but I haven’t really found anything else there that makes me want to drive an hour.
Same with Pier 6…couple things on that menu are good…the drive is just a bitch. And then it’s also full of the movers and shakers of Webster and BOI trash that has a little of daddy’s money to throw around.

For a celebration…I’d say Little’s…get the roasted grouper with radishes and the crispy eggplant…caviar service too.
While not a seafood restaurant per say, YiaYia’s has an almost identical dish as the Little’s grouper (not a coincidence since they are both Pappas restaurants) that swaps out grouper for snapper and radishes for artichokes…really like this place, the small plates here are great and the restaurant is stunning at night.
I like Clark’s too, it’s more atmosphere than food though, not that the food is bad, but I always feel like everything needs to be seasoned more. The butterscotch pot du crème might be one of my favorite desserts in the city.
I’ll give you a wild card…take her to Fung’s kitchen and get a whole arse king crab…or a lobster or dungenous crab…black pepper butter or chili garlic style.

Putting more moisture on something you’re trying to create a bark on is antithetical to one another.

I can tell you this…I have never seen a state have more interstate closures than Louisiana.
This past Sunday on the way to Lafayette…an 18 wheeler hauling palm trees ran off the road near going westbound near Scott and the cab of the tractor was crushed; all westbound lanes closed.
Heading home to Houston the same afternoon all eastbound lanes of traffic outside of Iowa were closed due to a roll over accident that required a life flight.

Interstellar, Stiles Switch, and Peached Tortilla are in Cedar Park.
I’d jump my happy arse in a Waymo and go to Este, Suerte, Nixta, Cuantos Tacos, Paprika in Austin proper.

Al T’s has been closed for a good 5 years or so.
It is now a Tia Juanita’s Fish Camp.
