re: Will Kentucky pitch backwards again? - STEVED00 on 6/7/23 at 11:36 am
I gotta disagree. Sending Skenes out against not their best almost guarantees a win. They'd be doing LSU a favor. You take that in a 2/3 scenario.
Sending Skenes out period is about as close to a sure thing that there is in college baseball. Skenes can only get us half way there.... Posted on Tiger Rant Jump to Post - View Topic - Replies (1) |
re: Will Kentucky pitch backwards again? - STEVED00 on 6/7/23 at 11:34 am
I hope they pitch Zach against Skenes, because I think they would waste him.
I guarantee LSU would prefer Kentucky throw their ace against Skenes. ... Posted on Tiger Rant Jump to Post - View Topic - Replies (0) |
re: Will Kentucky pitch backwards again? - STEVED00 on 6/7/23 at 10:28 am
You don’t want to get in a hole and have to win out after.
Obviously no one wants to get into a hole but the goal is to win 2 out of 3 whether you win the first 2, the last 2, or first and last doesn’t matter. BOTH LSU AND KENTUCKY so analyze the best path to accomplishing that goa... Posted on Tiger Rant Jump to Post - View Topic - Replies (0) |
re: Will Kentucky pitch backwards again? - STEVED00 on 6/7/23 at 6:04 am
If your ace can't win against the opponent's #2 you weren't winning the series anyway. You need to win the series to advance. If the coach thinks that's their best shot to win 2 games then they'll probably do it. If Skenes wasn't as dominant as he is then I could see why people are put off by... Posted on Tiger Rant Jump to Post - View Topic - Replies (0) |
re: Will Kentucky pitch backwards again? - STEVED00 on 6/6/23 at 8:02 pm Depends on how good they feel about their 1 to beat Floyd. Kentucky potentially feels their best bet is to win in 3 bc of how good Skenes is. Throw their 3 against Skenes and they take their chance with their ace against Floyd and hope their remaining staff can beat LSU’s remaining staff in game 3. ... re: Travinski or Milazzo - STEVED00 on 6/6/23 at 4:51 pm
would have to be Beloso. Travinski in the DH role
Beloso can play 1b so Pearson or Jobert could be subbed out too. I would think those 2 would be out before Beloso. ... Posted on Tiger Rant Jump to Post - View Topic - Replies (0) |
re: Prefer Skenes to Open the Super or Potentially Close it Out?? - STEVED00 on 6/6/23 at 12:54 pm
There’s a reason everyone in the thread is telling you the same thing. Winning game one is the goal in game one. Paul Skenes gives us the best chance to win game one. Ty Floyd is a good pitcher and our second best arm, but he does not give us a a better chance to win game one than Paul Sk... Posted on Tiger Rant Jump to Post - View Topic - Replies (2) |
re: Prefer Skenes to Open the Super or Potentially Close it Out?? - STEVED00 on 6/6/23 at 12:46 pm
Ace starts Game 1 of the Supers. Always. Win the first game and put pressure on other team to beat you twice.
Well just think of the pressure you put in UK to win game 1 if you know Skenes is sitting there in game 2. I am putting my self in UK’s shoes. If I have a pitcher that I f... Posted on Tiger Rant Jump to Post - View Topic - Replies (2) |

re: Prefer Skenes to Open the Super or Potentially Close it Out?? - STEVED00 on 6/6/23 at 12:10 pm
Then make a fricking argument. You haven't actually made one in this thread yet.
Let’s say Floyd requires 3 bullpen guys to go 1in each and Skenes would only require 1 bullpen guy to go one inning.
If Floyd goes 1st then 2 of the pen guys could get an additional days rest to be... Posted on Tiger Rant Jump to Post - View Topic - Replies (0) |
re: Prefer Skenes to Open the Super or Potentially Close it Out?? - STEVED00 on 6/6/23 at 12:05 pm
Playing cute and trying to ensure a game 2 victory is a fantastic way to lose game one and burn half the bullpen while doing it.
How is this playing cute? You need 2 wins. I would almost be more interested in who Kentucky pitches 1st. Skenes v Uk’s ace and Floyd vs Uk’s #2 is ideal... Posted on Tiger Rant Jump to Post - View Topic - Replies (1) |
re: Prefer Skenes to Open the Super or Potentially Close it Out?? - STEVED00 on 6/6/23 at 12:02 pm
Skenes also has the highest probability of getting deeper into the game, which means fewer bullpen decisions. Reducing the number of decisions reduces the number of chances to be wrong. It also preserves the bullpen for later in the series.
I could make the argument that throwing... Posted on Tiger Rant Jump to Post - View Topic - Replies (1) |
re: Prefer Skenes to Open the Super or Potentially Close it Out?? - STEVED00 on 6/6/23 at 12:00 pm
There is no rationalizing starting anyone but Skenes
I can make the rationalization that if you win game 1 with Floyd then that could demoralize UK since they know their chances have just been greatly reduced on wining game 2. ... Posted on Tiger Rant Jump to Post - View Topic - Replies (1) |

re: Prefer Skenes to Open the Super or Potentially Close it Out?? - STEVED00 on 6/6/23 at 11:57 am
This isn't the regular season, I actually doubt they pitch backwards to us. You can't concede the first game.
How would Floyd be conceding a game? Like I said in the original post the only real clear factor would be rest go to CWS. If rest is not a factor, it literally is a coin f... Posted on Tiger Rant Jump to Post - View Topic - Replies (2) |
re: Prefer Skenes to Open the Super or Potentially Close it Out?? - STEVED00 on 6/6/23 at 11:55 am
In the Supers, you play to win every single game. Skenes starts game 1, without question.
In Supers you have win 2 games against the same team. LSU would obviously be trying to win both games. In fact someone NOT NAMED SKENES will need to beat Kentucky to go to CWS. ... Posted on Tiger Rant Jump to Post - View Topic - Replies (3) |
re: Prefer Skenes to Open the Super or Potentially Close it Out?? - STEVED00 on 6/6/23 at 11:52 am
Unequivocally Skenes first. Any other answer is wrong.
Prefer Skenes to Open the Super or Potentially Close it Out?? - STEVED00 on 6/6/23 at 11:49 am We know Supers are best 2 out of 3 so we all know Skenes and Floyd will start the 1st two games. Question is which order?
IMO the only big deciding factor is potential rest got to CWS the rest would just be coaching preference. ... Posted on Tiger Rant Jump to Post - View Topic - Replies (15) |
