Besides, anyone that would try and do a land invasion would have to come across 2 oceans or enter through Canada or Mexico. That timeframe would give the entire country plenty of time to get organized for a defense.

Bro. The second amendment is not to protect us against foreign invasion. It's to protect us from our government becoming too powerful and trying to arbitrarily and violently create and enforce laws. Think back to our revolution. We were tired of King George and all the other kings. We created a government that has checks and balances, votes, and other features that ensure the government is granted power by the people, who every two years can take that government back and give it to another applicant.
In that vein, the second amendment was created so our government knows that, at all times, we possess arms. Any attempt to violently control citizens will be met with violent reprisal. It's also why the Army and the CIA have very limited ability to operate on our own soil, because they are supposed to be a defense mechanism against other countries, not a mechanism for controlling citizens like most countries do.
Good talk. Go back to your hunting camp and read a book.

That didn’t exactly work in Iraq, Afghan, Vietnam, Panama ect. Ect.
Even if we lost an original battle, occupying the US would be suicide for a foreign military.
