The guy who wrote the original story that was used as the driving concept was Danish.

The same people who DO give a shite and are excited she is being played by a black actress are simultaneously telling people they are dumb for giving a shite if they think the opposite.

How does a black mermaid change the story in any way? She’s a mermaid who gives an actual shite?

Read my comment again and tell me where I said "change the story"

Because once again Disney puts "the message" before the story. It's a clear attempt to piss off people rather than entertain, but you knew that...do better...

The story was written by a Danish author, and didn't have a black mermaid. Now tell this was not a blatant attempt to piss a large portion of the audience off. Gaslighting fool

I keep hearing this.

Middle easterners did not invent mermaids.

I mean; they did, but so did every other seafaring culture (non of which are subsaharan) independent of each other.

They all had their own versions of mermaids and fishpeople,

So, no, she wouldn’t be “middle eastern” unless they had sourced the story from middle eastern legends.

So if it makes some people happy and has no negative affect on anyone else…isn’t it a bad thing to care that they cast a black person?

It’s not a big deal and people are making a big deal out of absolutely nothing.

Of all the things to give the slightest crap about, this isn’t even cracking the top 100.

Well you seem worried about the story taking a hit because of a message you’re fabricating.

is anyone actually making a "big deal" about it? 2 million people clicked the "thumbs down" option on a YouTube trailer. nobody is protesting or foaming at the mouth.

the only people that got upset from what I can see is black twitter.

They do. Same with music and that always gets appropriated by lame white people (see Elvis)
