It's probably because for very little-to-no reason, Disney recast the Little Mermaid as a black chick, and given Disney's track record with "wokeness" in recent years, it's just another step in that direction in a lot of peoples' view.
I don't think it's some huge, egregious thing personally, but I also understand why people don't care for it.

I don't know any reasonable person who is upset by it. I think one side assumes the other side is upset and the other side is upset that the one side assumed they'd be upset.
