English isn’t taught in schools anymore because it’s racist so the writers you have coming out now are basically illiterate retards.

I legitimately think the reporters have access to post to the website from the field and write many of the stories on their phones. That’s the only way I can see some of this stuff making it into a story. Look at your examples, even an idiot would pick up on the most glaring mistakes and correct them if this was sent back to the office and typed on a desktop before posting to the web. Some of the errors are the same type stuff that spell correct does to me as I am trying to write this post.

There is much truth to what you write. The reporter is expected to submit several items a day and thanks to click metrics, the publisher can determine how each story fares in getting clicks.

I don’t see that many mistakes in all the pieces that Tyler Bridges and Sam Karlin write for John Bel Edwards. The least JBE could do is lend his copy editors to the Advocate as payment for their propaganda services.

It’s a dying industry. When margins are tight you can’t afford to pay top talent...so they hire a bunch of idealistic bozos who they can pay next to nothing and “augment” that pay by instilling within them an over-inflated sense of self-righteousness.

They need to take full 'credit' for the text of the articles.

But what about the quotations? I can believe that they are just presenting what that coach muttered.

Years ago, in Canada in the age of the first Trudeau PM, one of the papers presented his speeches as he gave them, bad grammer, um's, ugh's, coughs, incorrect words used and all. It's kind of a shame that that kind of reporting of reality never caught on.

Unless something has changed since I worked there, the box scores were done by temps and the write ups were done by staff journalists.

The quality of staff journalists sure seems to have plummeted.

His name is John Georges.

The manner you used his name in your sentence does not require his name to be used in the possessive form.

You people and your misuse of the English language up there.

Georges was a Deke at LSU, ftr.

The Advocan't print edition seems to depend heavily on hearing aid ads and is now a liberal rag.

Liberals....same thing. They act like grade schoolers all the time. Have you kept up with politics the last few years?

Has nothing to do with politics and everything to do with terrible business practice. If you're going to run such a company, grammar and spelling should be pretty high on the list of things to check before publishing any kind of article.

We have better grammar here on TD the majority of the time and it's a bunch of idiots (myself included) typing on an online forum from their phone while taking a shite.

At the end of the day it's the editor's job to police the mistakes. The Advocate sucks.

Central needs a coach that can win more than zero or one playoff game

The advocate needs to hire writers working on their high school papers

Louisiana needs a gov better than JBE.. .

That’s all I got right now

Exactly. The focus is on quantity, not quality. So you have low paid employees (mostly new grads or even still in school) cranking out stories with less staff above them to correct or guide.

They are judged on clicks and traffic, not error free copy

The Advocate’s writing quality and political bent has been bad for years.
