figure out $ what you need to survive and scale back...I did when I turned 40...I'll never own a yacht or a vacation home in France...but my wife still likes me and I go fishing whenever I want.

Wife
Kids
Societal pressure

Going against the norm can be uncomfortable and plus many will attempt to shame you for doing so

That sounds like a lack of imagination and creativity.

If you think you'd be bored with more free time to do whatever you please, you're probably a dull boring person

24 hours in day
3 segments - work, sleep, play
24/3 is 8 hours for each
5 day week 2 day weekend
8x5=40

What is the significance of splitting the day into 3? Why not 4? 5?

40 hrs per week

Life shouldn't be mostly about working all the damn time.

There are 168 hours in a week. If you work 40 you are left with 128. So non-work is 3 times as much as work and that's not even counting the holidays and vacation you likely get. Working 40 hours week is definitely not "working all the damn time."

The people who only work 40 hours are usually either hourly employees or people who have already spent too may years working 60+

Go live in a 3rd world shithole then where people don't work all day and sit around "having fun." There's tradeoffs in life.

Way to miss the point completely.

I would gladly come in Monday morning and work 40 hours straight and then be off until the following Monday.

How many of those 128 do you spend driving to and from work? Sleeping? Off the clock but still "at work"?

Do something you like and its not an issue. I love going in to work on mondays and after a few days off(if i don't have anything specific to do or places to visit) I'm miserable.

Not true at all. I work 40 or less salaried, have weekends off except when oncall. Most in the I.T. work the avg 40 hrs. We do have a 24x7 week, but we work from home for this one week, about once every 14 weeks. During that week, we don't do normal day to day stuff, just wait for shite to break.

There's your problem, you're spending too much time sleeping.
