Should've grown up on a dairy farm. Had to get up at 4-4:30 in the morning to milk on Christmas, New Years Day, Thanksgiving, weekends, etc. Then you do it again at 3-3:30 in the afternoon. Shite totally sucked.

I don’t mind the work week, I do hate the concept of 2 weeks vacation being standard though. I would gladly work more hours per week to get 4 weeks vacation every year.

That all depends on where you work and how long you've been working there.

Well, people choose a lifestyle then find work that supports the lifestyle. People "trapped" in meaningless jobs are there by choice.
In general, mass marketing and consumerism is to blame. The idea is to keep people anxious, fearful and jealous of others so we will continue to buy more stuff. Our whole education and media structure support this

See, your problem isn't that you want to work less; it's that you want to work less but still have the same quality of life.
Humans probably work less and have more than any other point in history.

There is good and bad with that.
Good: Yeah you are only working 3 days a week and have off 4 days every week. You can work your schedule out to where you have 8 days off in a row without having to use a minute of vacation time. No needing to always use PTO for doctor's appointments since you have days off during the week.
Bad: Your schedule usually isn't set so those 3 days you work can change every week. You have to work a lot of weekends and holidays. Many times you are exhausted after working 12 hours and basically get into a pattern of work, sleep, shower, eat and repeat when working multiple shifts in a row. Many times you spend one or two of your 4 days off each week(remember now...these usually are not 4 days off in a row) just recovering from how tired you are and doing basic stuff (laundry, etc) that piled up while you had to work your 12s. This is more so if you work nights but even working 12 hour days is tiring.
I've switched to a traditional M-F 40 hour work week for almost a year now. While there are certainly things I miss from working my 3 12s....I gotta say right now I really enjoy working "traditional hours".

I agree, I just don't have the balls to buck the system
How about a compromise. I work 3 10 hour days a week, and I get paid 70% of my salary.

Working is just the nature of life. If you didn't work back in the tribal days, they would stop feeding your arse. The key is finding a good balance and industry/company that allows you the freedom to achieve that balance.

It's very liberating to buck the system.
I work 9 months a year and less than 40 hours a week and am pretty happy with it
