If you completely reject materialism you can live the life you advocate. A tiny house off the grid, some livestock, a garden, a menial 20 hour job is there any time you want it, lots of people do it. That's as valid as selling your soul for a buck. No judgement bro. To each his own in a free country.

Yup. We have a huge eDiscovery business at my firm so we regularly hire contract attorneys to review the documents. We have one dude who has been working for us for several years who went this route. Just got tired of big corporate law. Apparently he has a modest house and some land outside the city. Small farm, grows his own food, hunts, etc. Whenever he needs some spending money he'll work for a few weeks reviewing docs then go back to living the good life.

People used to work at least six days per week. Difference was that they weren’t cooped up looking at a computer screen. They were working and living at the same time.

It's easy to knock those who choose a materialist path. That's not right either. Do what you do. Your path belongs to you. That said, we all make our calculations as to what is important. I enjoy travel. I don't care about cars or homes. But I can't not travel. The monks at my temple aren't allowed to travel (two weeks a year) or wander or "see the world". They have to stay in disciplined practice and service. My point is that a lot of what we don't think is "materialistic" actually may be.

We just need to take on the Spanish model. Work starts at 10, siesta is from 12-2, then you work again until 7-8ish.

No bullshite, I can honestly say that I have and it's fricking great. They don't care so much about the hours, it's the work. You do what needs to be done by four, you're off at four. You're still working on it at eight, you're still working at eight.

It's actually much better than the philosophy in a lot of American companies, in my opinion.

Schools are bloated nonsense nowadays, but you could have a block schedule where you take Monday/Wednesday classes and Tuesday/Thursday classes.
