I was born in the rain on the Pontchartrain
Underneath the Louisiana moon
I don't mind the strain of a hurricane
They come around every June
The high black water, a devil's daughter
She's hard, she's cold and she's mean
But nobody taught her, it takes a lot of water
To wash away New Orleans

Methodist Hospital in New Orleans.

We moved to Dubai when I was 6 weeks old, and I lived there until I was 5.

Moved back to Louisiana because my sister was turning 12 and there were no American junior or high schools there. So my parents either had to move back to the States, send my sister to boarding school, or have her live with my grandparents full time.

Louisiana doesn’t “top” this statistic because no one wants to leave. Quite the opposite. The percentage of native born is high because relatively few from outside Louisiana want to move there. It’s really at the bottom.

I left my birthplace in BTR twice.

Once when I was graduated from LSU in 2000. I moved to Santa Monica CA.

I was young and and poor and 9/11 was the reason my employer there went bankrupt. I couldn’t find another job and had to move back home after two years there.

Recently in 2024, I bought a house in Bend Oregon and live here currently.

My little sisters in Louisiana were shocked about the Bend move.

Weird because I was trying to get out of Louisiana since 2000.

I go to my grandfather, grandmother, uncle and mothers grave each time I come home.

I was born in a very small town in Kentucky and have lived in Kentucky my whole life.

The wife and I have discussed moving in our retirement, but we like that we live where all 4 seasons occur.

Kentucky is a fantastic state. Loved riding in the Land Between The Lakes. Paducah is a great town as well.

Unfortunately, I was born in the literal a-hole of the country, Odessa, TX. Currently live in infinitely nicer Knoxville, TN.

Born in 52 at Hotel Dieu Hospital. Grew up in the Lower 9th Ward, left home at 17 to go work in Madison, Miss. on the Ross Barnet Reservoir at a marina for 3 years.

Moved back to N.O and been here since.

The biggest thing I'd miss would be the accessibility of fresh, relatively cheap seafood when compared to other parts of the U.S.--------especially central states far from the source.
