re: Where were you born?

Born in NOLA, lived in GNO until I turned 35 in 1984. Moved to Iowa, Kentucky, Georgia (hence JawjaTigah), Florida, now Texas. TX will probably be our last stop.

Atlanta, GA in the late 60s when you still had to say Atlanta followed by Georgia. Was before it became a boom town full of transplants who call it ATL

For alot of people it is family and culture. Speaking from experience, it can be very hard to feel at home in other places if those things are important to you. Something as simple as going to the supermarket is a reminder of what you left behind. It’s powerful stuff and can often override the negatives of the state for some people.

For a lot of other people, they were born in poverty, had shite parents, went to shite schools, and don’t have a lot of options to leave even if they wanted to. There are probably tens of thousands of people who have never left the state. Probably a few hundred thousand who haven’t gone further than TX, MS, or AR.

ETA born in BR, grew up 30 minutes outside, and spent 12 years living elsewhere following college. Live in BR now and reasonably happy with life.
