So your parents stayed up the coaches arse so you could get extra playing time?
My dad was always at my practices. I'm at my kids practices all the time too. If i wanted to coach i would, same for my dad. It's called being a parent that is interested in what their kids do. What else would i go do while they practice? walk around Academy? play on some stupid 3" electronic device? I'd rather watch my kid go through a boring practice from afar, not say a word to the coach, than do just about anything else at that moment.

Same here. But, I think one of the reasons is because parties are so over the top now. I don't recall going to parties with 30+ kids. It was always a smallish, manageable group of friends. We had the rule that you had to invite every kid in the class, but nobody ever did. Yeah, some feelings got hurt, but that's life. And I agree with the other poster that said those giant parties are more of a look at me thing for the parents.

I stayed since my nephew was already there and no shite, there were like 30 parents there plus siblings of kids invited.
Haha
You let some count boss you around
Cuck
Edit: Also, so this Mom count sees that there is well more than enough parental supervision for this party but she calls you because there might be ONE kid without a parent there?

I remember being nine years old and all summer my mom kicking me out of the house for the majority of the day and I'd be on my own. I got in to all kinds of shite
We used to live in some townhomes and we would be released during the summer to pretty much pack around like wild dogs.
Well some of the townhomes used to be vacant for remodeling. Well being the little punks that we were, we used to jump their entry ways, by climbing on the roof and hopping down. We're 8/9 years old breaking in to empty townhomes to look around.
Well. We hopped one on the end one day. Went into the house. Sitting around talking shite. All of a sudden some hairy burly fat dude comes out the back of the house screaming with a baseball bat.
We all run out the house screaming.
Somebody had moved in over the weekend

Too many. The birthday circuit is a racquet and out if hand.

Nobody forces me. I'm old fashioned. I raise my kids old fashioned. Independence is a big skill I want them to have. They generally did not go to parties for random class kids for this reason. We're not spending Saturday hanging out with strangers to appease the helicopter hordes. They went to parties for friends, and friends' parents I knew well enough to trust them alone or hang out and help. Same went for the kids we invited to things. If you don't know me well enough to trust me to watch your kid for a few hours during a party, obviously our kids aren't close enough friends to require their presence at a party. I'm not hanging out with random people because they can't cut the apron strings. And I don't get why other parents would expect this. As the host, there is enough to do without having to entertain a bunch of adults as well. I'm hanging on like an curmudgeon and hoping for a return to sanity.

Kid drop off started in my area around age 6 but mostly only at home parties. Any place that throws multiple parties at one time or no checkpoint out, parents generally stay. It is too chaotic and one set of parents can't watch everyone so I get it.
Chuck E Cheese? We stay.
A private party at the children's museum where they are the only ones there? We feel comfortable dropping off.
The local family game center/bowling alley/laser tag that opens directly into a large mall? We stay.
The small bounce place where kids are not allowed to exit unless it is with a parent with a matching wristband? Drop off.
I enjoy both ways. When I drop off it usually means I don't have to entertain my two year and if I stay, I enjoy getting to know the other parents.

Fear. Parents don't want to assume the responsibility of other kids now. Who knows which kid will get hit in the head and parents end up suing.
It sucks..but it's fair. Don't trust parents these days. Save yourself. Make them watch their own kids.

Ah the good ole days complainers...
Complains parents aren't raising their kids like the "good ole days," goes to another thread and complains about Millenials who were raised partly by the same generation as the previous good ole days mentioned are trash......

My parents always dropped me off and made sure that I knew they had given my friends parents unrestricted clearance to beat my arse as they saw fit.
One time my friends mom did whip my arse. It was deserved. Still love her to death, she still threatens to whip my arse, and I turned out (debatably) halfway decent.

What the hell? No wonder so many of you think it's normal for a parent to stay at a birthday party. I've never heard of such a thing.

How/why did they have your phone number in the first place?
If you gave it to them there when dropping the kids off, wouldn't that have been the time for them to ask you why you were giving them your number and to tell you that they wanted you to stay as opposed to after you left?

It isn't just birthday parties. You ever been to a kids' sports PRACTICE? My dad or mom always just dropped me off at practice. Or I rode with a friend. Now, at least one parent is there and many times both. At fckng PRACTICE
We used to have a carpool schedule for practice and for weekday games. We had 6-7 of us piled up in those minivans back then.

I'm not even a parent. I'm the Uncle. My sister and her husband were out of town and I was watching the kids. My nephew is friends with the kid who's birthday it was, but he mostly wanted to go to hang out with his really good friends who were also there.
I'm sure my sister knows all of these people, but I'm just an uncle who didn't think I needed to hang out at a 10 yr olds birthday party.
It's not like much supervision was going on either. Most of the parents were ignoring the kids anyway and hanging out with each other or bored out of their mind playing on their phone.
