This. When I had parties as a kid, I invited my friends. They got dropped off by their parents and my parents and maybe a relative or two were around to supervise, do the cake/food etc.
It's not just b/c it was a trampoline place either. I was talking to some of the parents and apparently this is common whether or a party at your house or venue.

If the party is at a kid's house, then sticking around should be optional (ok, with cut-off age being 8 or so)

You want one set of parents watching over 30 kids in a public place? I'll bet you would want to throw them under the jail if one of those kids got snatched up.

Started at 4 for us with pre k.
It's classmates so I know all the parents from school functions, sports, Cub scouts, etc.
I leave them sometimes but always make arrangements with another parent to watch my kid.

No, not 1 set of parents, but parents and whoever they choose to help like relatives, grandparents etc....Geez parents must spend every weekend going to birthday parties these days
And I do get it for little kids, but by 10, I don't think they need constant supervision. I rode by bike all over Metairie with my friends when I was 10 and the world is a safer place nowadays. I'm guessing just another example of helicopter parenting. At what age does the supervision come to an end? My sister's kids luckily are being raised to be independent. My brother's son, on the other hand, is a giant pussy thanks to my sister-in-law

We didn't even have these all out birthday parties when I was growing up. A couple friends/cousins would come to the house and we'd eat cake and ice cream/party. As far as practice goes, sometimes my dad would stay and watch but for the most part I was just dropped off and picked up later.

one more reason not to have kids. Having to helicopter over them 24/7 must be horrible.

There were several times where I didn’t know where my parents were or practice ended early but I didn’t have change for the pay phone so I would call my mom collect and quickly say “come pick me up” when they asked who the collect call was from.

Only time I recall being parentless for a birthday party was when friends had a small group of friends go to ball games and such. Never when it was just a random party with lots of kids.
I wouldn't want to watch other kids for my kid's birthday parties unless it was a small group that I agreed to watch. I would call you back as well. Not my responsibility to make sure your or your family's kid doesn't crack his skull or get kidnapped at the jump park.

sounds like this kid wasn't really frineds with the birthday kid. Shcool class grouped together kind of invite.
