Birthday parties are lame, I know that. We used to skate and bowl as kids. Now, we go to someone's house who rents a big water-slide that 12-year-olds and 4-year-olds, alike, are somehow supposed to navigate. That is why they want you there...because they took on too much and need helpers. Just in case some 5'8" 12-year old knocks the piss out of a kid who is still pooping in his britches.
Back in the day, you had the host(s) and close friends. We were dropped off and picked up.

This is a lawsuit thing? Scared of being sued... don't have said party... pretty simple or make folks sign waivers if you are that nervous.
If I throw a birthday party I am not expecting 30 parents to be involved with it. Adult/Parent should be able to handle a few hour party without lawyers becoming involved and parents hovering. Sure a few parents could stay and help out... but everyone of them? How big are these party places supposed to be?
We are doing our children and future a disservice for acting this way. I suppose we should bunk up with them for a month when they head off to college just to make sure everything will be peaches and cream, right?
And yeah, there is a difference between a 10 yr old and 18 yr old. Although there are even 18 yr old who aren't mature enough to go off to college rather than staying home and attending a local college.

Both were always drop-offs. If parents had to stay at a kids birthday party then no one would have shown up.
Dangerous? I laugh at the trampoline danger when we had this stuff at parties. Usually with one haggard parent trying to control 10 wild kids
The way it should be.
Give a bunch of kids heavy ceramic balls and mallets and let the fun begin!!

I agree, it does seem like they're all pussies nowadays. I'm just waiting for the pendulum to swing back in the other direction. The world is safer now than it was in the 80's and a whole generation survived it without being giant pussies.

I personally don’t have a problem when parents do this. Makes me feel more comfortable to discipline their kids (if need be) when they are not there, rather than present but not paying attention to their own child.

When I coached Rec Softball & Baseball it was Rec Dept policy that at least parent or older sibling( or if another parent agreed to be responsible for that child) be present during practice/games.
Unofficial policy was that it was at the Coaches discretion whether to enforce it of not.
The main reasons for the rule were to keep parents from dropping them off and then being late picking them up and to keep a coach from being alone with a child.
