Made biscuits this morning and my son and I both put some sour cream on them. Grandpa used to do it every, single, time. Made me smile thinking about it.

When I was in elementary school my grandparents lived two blocks from school and almost everyday I would go get a P&J sandwich.... then walk home 6 blocks away.

my paternal grandparents were farmers in central Louisiana. Both were born in 1910. Any time I see OLD farm equipment or tools I think of them. There were distinct smells that I can still smell today. My childhood in the 70s was the greatest.

I never knew them. They had all passed before I was born. Thanks a-hole.

My grandmother always had a supply of peppermints and Dentyne gum. Anytime I have peppermints or smell cinnamon gum it reminds me of that.

Seeing an early 60’s model Chevy truck! Grandpa always drove one.

I’m sorry buddy, do you need a hug?

The smell of gasoline because my grandpa has always kept a can of gas in his vehicle. So his car and clothes always smell like gas.

"Youre a growing boy! You need to eat some more of these!"
"Dont sit on the couch until I put the plastic on!"
"Let me see that cut"
My grandpa's attire to Shoney's, to church, to Ryan's, maybe even to a wedding or funeral (guy in pic is not my actual grandpa)
There were always pecans. I have his old pecan cracker on display in a hutch

3-In-One Oil and Steen's Pure Cane Syrup remind me of my paternal grandfather. Purple hull peas, frying bacon, and flit guns remind me of my paternal grandmother
Pepperidge Farms Raisin Bread and Highlights for Children magazine remind me of my maternal grandmother. My A.H. Fox Sterlingworth double-barrel shotgun reminds me of my maternal grandfather, but he died before I was born. My mother gave me his gun before she died in 1993.

Man, I bet half of these apply to all of us. Ol boy made all of us kids eat hog head cheese and saltines if we were gonna rabbit hunt with him. I still bring some to the camp from time to time. The best is my son has picked up most of these traditions so I know it will last at least a couple more generations!

Smell of mothballs. Grandma put one in every draw and a handful in each closet. They lived in Vermont in an old farmhouse.

My PawPaw was an incredible carpenter and had a badass woodworking shop in his back yard. I learned a lot from him, and still no nothing compared to him.
But I love carpentry and it's a hobby for sure. Every time I smell sawdust, hear the roar of a saw, or even just tinker around in my shop, I think of him.
He was an incredible man and hero of mine. Think of him every day.

Documentaries of the Pacific theater in WWII remind me of my gramps
Making a roux reminds me of my great grandmother and her massive roux arm. Woman could have been in "Over the Top", no doubt in my mind.
When I council my kids it reminds me of my other grampa who was a teacher, principal and then addiction / behavioral councilor for youth prisons in the latter part of his career. I find myself telling my kids the same things he told me because they are still fresh in my head as if he just told me.
