well capitalism and freedom is good and leads to prosperity and success and communism is bad and only leads to poverty and despair with people living in bondage and servitude, and that also should be common knowledge, but that isnt being taught in schools anymore so it can be hard on young people to try and think when they are taught not to think or reason facts for themselves

From a practical standpoint there isn't one. There's a lot of shite we learn in grade school that doesn't actually help us in life.
I think there are two principles when it comes to general education.
1) you teach students general knowledge that you think everyone "should" know (this changes over time) which also helps students learn how to learn
&
(2) you test students on the curriculum to see which ones are the best at learning (are the smartest)
