re: What’s the worst game you’ve ever seen at Tiger Stadium?
Posted by I-59 Tiger on 7/7/26 at 1:29 pm to papasmurf1269
Well, since I'm late to the party I'll try to add some that no one has mentioned (although 1988 Miami, 2016 Florida and Alabama and Shaun Alexander in 1996 are worth repeating)
1981 Florida State. Played them for HC. They were playing their 5 road game in a row, Ohio State ,Neb ,ND and Pitt --all pretty good that year. They just creamed us,38-14
1983 Miss State. Yea, John Bond had our number but State was awful in 1983. Last home game of the year (and my SR). Surely for one game LSU would rise up. Nope, 45-26 and we scored late to make it that close
1987 Alabama. Tommy Hodson was hurt but this was why Arnsparger, then Archer had Mickey Guidry play meaningful snaps in games. First time in eons LSU was more talented across the board vs Alabama. Nope, 22-10 Alabama
2020 Alabama. Yea, 2020 was a nightmare and Big Ed had checked out and the Tide was pretty awesome. But that was just savage. 45-14 at halftime? Highlight of my game was the stadium jambalaya
And even though I said I wouldn't 2024 Alabama and 2025 A&M were just garbage. BK lost me after that Alabama game.

Perhaps LSU stuffing #6 Alabama , 20-10 at Legion Field in 1982 to end an 11 game losing streak to them. LSU hadn't won vs them on the road-- or period since 1970.
2004 Florida isn't a bad choice, but LSU had crushed them 36-7 in 2002 in Gainesville.

Of course people of all backgrounds sadly drown. But it seems there are an inordinate amount of black kids who can't swim who drown. I don't understand why more isn't done about that? I'd rather some hear or read about black kids learning how to swim more than why aren't there more black golfers?

re: Has consideration been given to extend 565 in Huntsville to Interstates 22 and 59?

The state of Alabama, regardless of designated agency, is one of the worst when it comes to bona fide Interstates (including loops and spurs) and even 'controlled-access' highways. Now, Alabama is top-shelf when comes to nice, neat four-lane bypass around a city of less than 5,000 people. This goes back to the early 1960s.
If you have ever seen a road map of Alabama in the 1960s or even early 1970's you'll see the the interstates were under construction right at Jefferson County(Birmingham), Montgomery and Mobile. Those counties typically didn't vote for Wallace and he paid them back by using highway dollars to build 10,20,59 and 65 in rural counties first (the 65 bridge over the Tennessee north of Decatur was another issue).
Even after the interstates were completed in the mid 80s the state ne er has actively pursued new interstates. It took Alabama 48 years to get its part of I-22 completed. And now the ridiculous 'Northern Beltline' is taking forever. The proposed interchange with 22 in Graysville has had to be redrawn with a loop within a loop as I-422 won't environmentally link up with 22. An I-222 has been drawn to connect the two. (I have no idea why a route where a bulldozer won't show up for another 20 years simply can't be redrawn.)
All kinds of "interstates" are listed as 'proposed' : I-67 from Mobile to Florence, I-63 from Panama City to Montgomery, I-14 south of Montgomery from Miss into Georgia and an extension of the terminus of 85 from Montgomery to 20/59 outside of Meridian. But, they remain 'proposed.'
Long way to answer your question but Corridor V really has about two nice miles of Alabama 24 west of Decatur near Russellville. The idea for 565 to extend to Florence or 59 outside of Chattanooga or highly unlikely over the next 25 years.

40 years ago tonight #11 seed LSU upset #2 seed Georgia Tech, 70-64 in the SE Regional
Posted by I-59 Tiger on 3/20/26 at 4:03 pm
for the : tl,dr crowd --exit now!
One of the many amazing wins for an amazing team that year. After starting the season 14-0 and ranked as high as #8 in the polls, LSU was truly "one of the last 4 in" before that was a thing. The team was beset with distractions as Nikita Wilson missing the Spring semester due to academics and a 'chicken pox' out break that caused some rearranging of the schedule and a few games with little to no bench. LSU limped into Lexington for the SEC Tournament having lost 4 of its last 11 including a 68-57 regular season finale loss to Kentucky at Rupp Arena a few days earlier.
LSU really "had" to win its first game vs Florida. Counting SEC Tournament games, two NITs and 3 NCAA tournaments, LSU had not won a post season tournament game since the 1981 Midwest Regional final over Wichita State. LSU beat a respectable Florida team (that was in search of its FIRST NCAA trip) 72-66. Next up was #1 seed Kentucky who had already beaten LSU twice. LSU led most of the game and held 56-51 lead with 2:00 left. Kentucky ended the game on a 10-2 run and eked out a 61-58 win. LSU's John Williams to this date remains the only team to win the SEC Tourney MVP award without participating in the title game.
Not only did LSU slip into the tournament, they would play in the Southeast Regional in Baton Rouge,LA at the Assembly Center. First #6 Purdue fell and then #3 Memphis State fell and it was on to Atlanta and #2 Georgia Tech.
After the 1984 season the NCAA outlawed 'host teams' playing in the regionals on their home court. (As in LSU's case home teams would continue to be able to host and play in first and second round games for another two years) But the SE Regional was at the Omni, not Alexander Memorial Coliseum where Tech played.)
In game one Kentucky defeated Alabama, 68-63 for the Wildcats' fourth win over the Tide that year. Next up LSU had preseason #1 Georgia Tech. Tech who finished second in the ACC and was 27-6 had a fine team but not the dominating team many had predicted. Still they were big favorites over LSU.
The game was a dogfight the whole way with LSU leading 36-30 at halftime. But the second half was back and forth with Georgia Tech taking a four point lead with 6 minutes left. Trailing 56-52, LSU went on a 10-2 run to go ahead 62-58 and never trailed again. With Tech trapping at the one minute mark down by four Williams found Ricky Blanton alone under the basket for an easy basket (similar to what would happen two days later.) LSU played only 7 players who played more than one minute. Don Redden had 27 and Derrick Taylor had 23. LSU won 70-64 and would face Kentucky for the fourth time with a trip to Dallas and the Final Four on the line.

May be long so please exit if you are Team tl;dr.
Today began one of the craziest weeks in LSU sports which were about has LSU has it could be. The irony is this was about two and a half months after Sports Illustrated's "Crazy Days at LSU" which had Dale Brown on the cover. The story didn't acknowledge any of this mess.
First of all #14 LSU lost in Gainesville to Florida, 74-65. Not devastating in and of itself, but Florida was still one year away from their FIRST NCAA bid. LSU had beaten Florida 20 of the last 23 games. Still even though LSU was now 13-3 the three losses had come in the last 5 games --all three losses on the road.
LSU took the court that night without Nikita Wilson, the Tigers' captain and one of the top scorers and rebounders. In fact, Wilson would not play for the rest of the season.Buddy Seay, a Psychology professor and head of the LSU Athletic Council deemed Wilson ineligible after failing a Math class and denying Wilson's appeal. Wilson said he failed some tests because of travelling with the team to road games and LSU said he never mentioned any of that until he received his F.
In a press conference the next day Dale Brown responded like Dale Brown.Brown said "there is a Judas on the LSU staff" and how other students with failing grades had been given an incomplete."Some grades have been changed for International Students so they don't have to go back to Iran." He also alluded to the seemingly lethargic play by several Tigers in the Florida game . One of the reasons was an outbreak of Chicken Pox by members of the team. Before leaving for Gainesville , John Williams and Bernard Woodside had complained of a rash and were medicated. Upon returning they were determined to indeed have chicken pox. Only 4 players had had the chicken pox, starters Don Redden and Derrick Taylor and reserves Edwin Wilson and Neboisha Bukumirovich so there was obvious precaution with the remainder of the squad.
Dr Marty Broussard felt the team needed to postpone the upcoming game as well as an internist at OLOL. While sympathetic to a point, Auburn, LSU's upcoming opponent expected LSU to show up for that Saturday's game in Auburn. It was to be Auburn's first nationally televised basketball game at home. Heck,Auburn and various Alabama media suggested that LSU send the four healthy players and some intramural players. Who wouldn't find valor in Auburn winning 119-42 over an impromptu walkon team? Of course this was the same Auburn University that persuaded Kentucky to move their game from Saturday to Monday three weeks earlier as athletic staff and cheerleaders were still en route from the football team's Cotton Bowl and wouldn't make it back in time. Cheerleaders > healthy players. Kentucky obliged without question.
The SEC really just wound up letting LSU and Auburn work it out and the game was postponed a few weeks where LSU won, 63-61 in Auburn. Auburn did return the favor with a win in Baton Rouge at the end of the season.

It is,but it could be said all 4. Even though LSU won the 1958 title before the bowls, LSU did win the Sugar Bowl over Clemson, 7-0 in the 1959 Sugar.
What is really odd is heading into the 2019 playoffs to be played in New Orleans, the three other teams Ohio State,Oklahoma, and Clemson had already lost to LSU in a bowl--Sugar,or BCS in New Orleans.

Sophomore year homecoming. Absolute beat down. This was in the era where Florida State was putting its program back together after hitting rock bottom in 1973 and 1974. Florida State agreed to many road games with no return several years in advance. This LSU game was the fifth game in a row that the Seminoles played a game on the road. At Nebraska, at Ohio State, at Notre Dame at PItt and then at LSU. They went 3-2 in those game but it really took a toll on them. Later in the year Southern Miss beat them at home, 58-14.

UCLA couldn't go to the Rose Bowl since they had been their the previous year. USC was a replacement since they were local
Several things wrong with this. UCLA won the national title in 1954 but couldn't go to the Rose Bowl and Ohio State did beat Southern Cal. Too bad as even though the polls were awarded prior to bowls, UCLA was #1 in the UPI poll and Ohio State was #1 in AP.
The Jan 1, 1969 Rose featured #1 Ohio State vs #2 Southern Cal. Southern Cal would have been awarded the AP poll had they won that day.
I'm guessing the OP meant to infer either the BCS or playoffs. Still Texas won a few Cotton Bowls in years they were AP champ or UPI.. Southern Cal won several titles when they won the Rose Bowl.
