Never even heard of the place otherwise

Because then you have no reason that Wakko's "State Capitols" should exist.

There is a song(Animaniacs) and a rap (rapping professor) that both make remembering them super easy.

You'd be surprised how many adults think that New Mexico is a foreign country.

States and capitals were easy. Try learning the capital of Nauru and where that shite is on a map.

No shite? Man glad you were here to clear that up.

It was sarcasm. Your sarcasm meter must be broken.

For some reason, it is a pet peeve of mine if people don't know basic geography or don't have a general idea where a "popular" location is located.

For example, if someone doesn't know what continent a country is in... Or people who think Africa is a country.. or some shite like that. Yes, now it can easily be looked up, but if I had a child in school, I would like to think they are at least learning the foundation of geography. I rather they know enough that when they use google, it is for more in depth information.

I guess you don't think they should learn how to spell since there is spell check right? Call me old fashion, but I think it is important to not have to depend on google for everything.

Think that was hard? we had to memorize all 64 parishes

Louisiana history... 8th grade..

I am actually glad I had to learn this. I can't name all 64 parishes off the top of my head, but if someone says the name of a parish, I have an idea of where it is.

Hopefully while someone is memorizing that material they will also look at a map. Then they can get some general geographic knowledge. While following their phone GPS it could save them from going to Springfield USA when they want to go to Springfield La.

I had a Louisiana studies teacher that made us memorize each Parish on a blank map for a test. Total waste of time, imo.
