Another good one for kids is to have them learn all the teams and divisions in the NFL. Or SEC, Big 12, etc. Helps them with geography, memory, organization.

Knowing things about the country you live in is a good idea. Americans bash other countries for being 'not as awesome' as the US, but most Americans know absolutely nothing about the country they proclaim to be the greatest.
