It was over a year, I was in the hospital for almost 6 months, then on bed rest/rehab for almost another year. Then I went back to college, but I worked jobs during school, just not big boy jobs.

I had a good amount of cash at the start, none after it was all said and done.

I’ve never been unemployed, and the most I’ve ever had off between jobs is three weeks. I’ve done three week vacations too. Not sure if that counts as “not working”. I don’t have one of those jobs where someone does my work when I’m out. I’m 60, and have probably had less than a year total where I wasn’t working. Likely retiring at the end of next year.

Damn that sucks. I’m in sales so I haven’t worked a weekend in 23 years. I get 26 days of vacation a year and worked 3.5 days a week for several of those years when I had a 4 day work week.

Bonus points when a weekend or 2 falls in those days and stretches the PTO. I take the same time off.

about 4 weeks in February 1996. I was working on a contract that ended and everyone on it was laid off. It took about a month or so to find something the next gig.

I’m just back at work after being on medical leave for 2 years. Thankfully I had a good bit of money saved to live on because I didn’t have long term disability insurance.

A little over a week for various vacations and illnesses.

My first boss impressed an ideal on me at a young age: if a company finds out it can manage without you for a long enough period of time, it will figure out how to manage without you indefinitely. Since then, I have made it my mission to bring to the table something that nobody else can, or in seasons where that wanes, not take long periods off. Usually both.

What knee? I had acl and that took some time but I can’t imagine working a physical job in 7 weeks. Can barely climb stairs

Right knee tibial osteotomy. Trying to save me from a replacement for now bc I’m younger. Wasn’t too bad after the first 5-7 days pain wise. I was able to get after PT pretty aggressively being out of work so I at least had something to do. Coming off crutches was easier for this than it was for the OATS procedure I had the year before. Maybe I was more prepared for what to expect.

Freelance film/tv production work allows for generally 3 months off a year, but longest stretch was 4 months consecutively and that was involuntary.

Do you get paid enough money to live in LA and have 3 months off

I’m starting a new job on Monday after 10 months of not working. I’m both excited and scared of what the daily will look like.

From January 1976 until retirement in October 2017, was furloughed for 4 months in 1985 and took a 3 week vacation once in 1990.

I took about ten weeks off between a federal clerkship and private practice. That was decades ago.
