In the Houston area, I've seen $25 - $35. I was getting ripped off in Louisiana

When I lived in a neighborhood near LSU I was cutting 4 or 5 yards for 30 a yard. They were about a quarter acre. some lil snot nosed 12 year old started cutting all of them for 15 a yard. put me out of business.

I wouldn't pay a 12 year old anything. I can (and do) frick my own yard up for free.

just out of curiosity, where is this town 2 hrs north of Birmingham?

The guy across from us just moved in. Young couple with a toddler. Seems like a good dude with a decent job.
But for whatever reason he can't afford a riding mower right now so he is paying someone.
He mowed it the first time with a push mower. His back yard is probably a 2.5 acre field.
I caught up with him a few days later and he said no way I'm doing that again, and I was like yeah... I'd be getting a zero turn as soon as I could. But he said something about it would have to wait.

Not where I live now, but it's where I'm from. And I'm still about 2 hours north of birmingham.

What would you pay a 12 year old?
$60,000/year minimum according to the millennials and Gen Z'ers on this board. It has to be a livable wage.

My grandad had a snapper dealership at his lumber yard.
A high school buddy bought a used riding mower from him, and drove up and down the main street in town with a little wagon in tow with his gas can and tools. Back then he probably got $20 per yard.
He turned 16 and got a trailer and continued cutting grass. Then he had so many yards, his brother quit his job to work with him. Then he got into landscaping, and his DAD quit his job to work with him. THEN... his GRANDAD retired, and operated a freaking nursery to supply the plants for him.
Dude makes a damn killing with crews all over the region.
He can't hear shite, but he lives comfortably.
Long story short. Charge $50 but make sure you actually make a profit. Buy him ear protection.

Then I would say 75 - 100 and would lean harder towards 100.
lol at paying a 12 year old $100 to mow an acre lawn

Yeah, I could see him doing something like that. He likes working outside. I don't, but he does. Lol part of the reason I'm supporting the idea.
I have ear protection and safety glasses.

Love this thread. Same board full of “kids these days don’t want to work” threads saying they’d never let the kid cut their grass. I’d probably pay him $50 if he does a decent job. I wish I had a kid in the neighborhood asking to do my yard.

1.25 a minute and extra 1 for every tree bush shrub he needs to trim

Thats because when we(the OT) say 'kids' and not wanting to work, we mean young adults around 18-25 or so. We arent talking about 12 year olds

Depends how big the lawn is

$40 for cut, edge, blow on a 1/2 acre yard here

I’ve never understood this mentality. I completely get saving money and mowing yourself OR just not having the time or desire and paying someone else. What I don’t get is “I’d like to mow my own yard but I can’t afford a mower so I’m gonna pay someone else.”
Dude, for what he’ll pay someone else to mow 2.5 acres, at least $400 a month, he could put a zero turn on a Home Depot card and pay it off over a season. After a season you break even and have a mower free and clear.

I pay $40 for mine. Includes mow, edging, and blowing everything off. I wouldn’t be willing to give a teenager the same amount that I give a professional service. I’d pay him $20 though. And if he could provide a quality cut that I’m used to getting then I’d up it.

How do you think they become lazy 18-25 year olds? It's cause they never had to do anything as 8-18 year olds.
My son has been doing his own laundry, cleaning his room, bathroom, helping clean the rest of the house, and doing the dishes since he was 10. Some of that much before 10.
I traded him dishes and let him start mowing towards the end of last year so he could get good at that.
