I recall a Gerald Ford State of the Union. But, that isn't a major story. I guess something about OPEC and the gas shortages.
I recall the daily Iranian hostage crisis but was pissed when the news interrupted BJ and The Bear when they were released. I was a kid.

I remember watching coverage of the first Iraq war on the TV with my parents. Didn't really understand what it was all about but the first major news story I remember. That, or the L.A. riots. I dont know which was first. Then the election with Ross Perot.
In my mind all that happened at pretty much the same time. I remember those things because I remember watching all that in the first house we lived in and we moved when I was in 2nd grade.

I remember being in kindergarten watching my parents locked in on the OJ trial. Court room images are burned in the memory. But the real first big story that I actually felt emotion towards was Columbine.
