I remember the Ayatollah coming to power in Iran and taking Americans hostage. The Super Bowl was in New Orleans and there was a yellow ribbon around the Dome.

Olympic bombing in Atlanta. 5 years old. We went to archery and wrestling and watched the torch get carried in. Can’t think of anything major before that

I was in 5th grade and at my friends house. I only remember watching some reporter and camera man and they were being held at gun point by Rebels or other group and they were shot on live television. I remember how shocked I was at what I just saw, and admittedly I remember crying over the reporter being killed.

My friend’s parents had to return me home. 1974

Baby Jessica turned out just fine. Well not by OT standards. But she's alive and healthy.

Challenger explosion

This was the first event I fully remember because we were watching it live on TV in elementary school. However I vaguely remember the assassination attempt on President Reagan in the early 80s.

The good old days were when you only heard a major news event happening every 2-3 years apart.

OKC bombing, but more so because we could feel it in my third grade class 10 miles north.

Not necessarily. I have memories going back to the age of 2 years. Most importantly, people of my age were not assaulted by all the video imagery 24/7. When I was a little kid, the cinema with concomitant, brief newsreels had a tremendous impact on a child. TV only became ubiquitous in the mid to late1950s. So, you can’t really judge a person’s age by the age of the remembered news event plus 5 years. Just splitting hairs.

Cuban missle crisis.
Parents stocked up on canned foods. Air raid sirens erected all over the city.

I mean, not to be ugly.. like her... but I don't think she is fine by anyone's standards. I say that with all do respect, I am sure she is good people.

First major news would be the Iranian Hostages.

I recall the news when Elvis died but don't really consider that major.
