What’s the deal with Mississippi people having personalized license plates?

A lot of states let you do that as long as you don't put obscenities on it.

I have been wondering the same thing.... Its like 8 out of 10 have one.

I was gonna get one here in SC but they give it to you on a completely different plate design that I didn’t like as much as the regular one.

They must be cheap to get because there are a lot of them.

honest question- are there any states that DON'T let you get a personalized plate?
I'm so confused by this thread. First I'm surprised OP is so surprised that people have personalized plates, now I'm surprised that apparently only "a lot" (rather than all) states allow it.

I believe the black and white tags were originally personalized only? Maybe they still are or never were? If the majority of the ones you see are black and white then that's my theory.

I find most personalized plates are owned by women who dont match the image they are trying to portray.
