Whatever happened to that priest who ran off with the Alabama teen?

This was a thread over a year ago. He got ex-communicated from being a priest after they got married. Not saying this is right or wrong, but people used to run off and get married all the time with the man usually being several years older.

ETA. Looked it up. No charges filed. Still married. They went back to the US and even stayed with her Dad. Everyone was lawyered up.

Disgraced Alabama priest Alex Crow — who ran off to Italy and later married a catholic school teen months after she graduated — has been officially removed from the priesthood, the church announced.
“The Archdiocese of Mobile has received notice that the laicization of Alex Crow is complete, effective immediately,” a statement provided by the office of Archbishop Thomas J. Rodi read Friday.
Crow, 30, had asked to be removed from the priesthood, with the request being “confirmed in a letter by our Holy Father, Pope Francis.”

Blackwood said that the young woman -- who has remained unnamed in media reports at the request of her family -- "appeared in seemingly good health and said that she is safe.” "However, she brought an attorney with her to the meeting, and together they declined to answer any questions about the circumstances surrounding her July disappearance, or indeed any other questions," said Blackwood.
"Without being able to speak with the young lady about these events, we do not have sufficient admissible evidence to charge a crime at this time.
Therefore, this investigation is currently closed." He added that "as there are no criminal charges at this time, I will not answer any questions about a private relationship between two now-adults."
quote:
Attorney Christine Hernandez, who represents the young woman's family, told local media that Crow and the young woman are currently staying with his father, attorney Duncan Crow. Hernandez also said the young woman is being represented by attorney Buzz Jordan, and that "she's not allowed to go anywhere without a lawyer or Alex."

While the young woman was believed to be 18 at the time of travel, her family has repeatedly expressed grave concerns that their daughter had been groomed by the 30-year-old Crow, who attended the school from 2007-2011 and provided pastoral ministry to students -- although school officials have denied he was formally employed or had ever chaperoned school trips or retreats.

They are in love and got married. Cool ending to the story. I know of several priests who quit because they were in love/wanted a family. Sometimes you have to follow your heart.

A brother at CHS quit to get married. I want to say it was with a nun but not sure about that.

my uncle went to the seminary at 16 and was a parish priest my whole childhood and young adult life. He left to get married…
it’s stupid not to let priests marry. He’s still active in the church and was a great priest. He still would be

I think it’s such a dumb tradition for priests to never marry. And I say that as a Christian.

They're married now. There was nothing illegal about what he did.

The articles said there were love letters back and forth while she was still a student.
A little creepy IMO, but I guess they could prove any explicit (pun intended) wrong doing. Hope everything was on the up and up and it works out for them.

Right they were married. Hope her family is cool with it nowadays. They were calling him a groomer.

While it is true that we have no body of evidence in the form of photographs or other visual evidence, I think that I'm safe in announcing here in TD, my correct conclusion is that:
She fine.
She fine.

Even if it leads you to take an 18 year old to Italy without the permission of knowledge of the parents?
FYI, Only chicks say that. And it’s weak. So, sometimes you have to think with your head. Especially when it’s borderline against the law.
