it’s stupid not to let priests marry.
Now church higher ups don’t want the priests married because it’s basically a 24/7 job. Not impossible to be married, but sort of inconvenient.
Being a priest is a vocation, not a job. Not saying you can’t be married and have a vocation, but it does make it difficult in certain situations. I see this with the married deacons.

Who gives a frick about an 18 year old’s parents? She is an adult.

All I can think is that her family must have money or friends in the media. All these stories call him things like "disgraced former priest." What is the disgrace?
And,
Why is that, exactly? Really there are two questions. One, why report on this at all (that is, two people of age decided to get married). Two, why frame every story as if he is a sex offender, down to "not naming her at the request of her family" when she is over 18 and apparently not even in contact with her family?

He was quietly assigned to another parish and is free to groom more young Catholic girls.

18-year-olds don't need the permission of their parents to travel to Italy.

I had a girlfriend who's mom got a dude to give up the priesthood.
He smoked like a chimney and looked like a catcher's mitt.

quote:like I said I grew up with a parish priest in the family (my mother’s brother). He was a pastor and the other priests in the parish became family friends. Every single one of them had so much free time we wondered aloud if they’d found the best job ever LOL. They all had hobbies (usually fishing). I’m not saying there’s anything wrong with that but I am saying that if they’d been able to marry and raise a family I doubt seriously their work (vocation if you prefer) would have suffered

I asked my priest one time if he thought the church would ever let priests get married. He responded, "they better if they want to continue to get priests".
