The muslims already destroyed it in 2001.

Nothing we have would be equivalent. The cathedral was built in the 12th century. We have nothing that compares to the things that building has seen and it's history.

This.

And that's not to say that we don't have incredible architecture here, but the magnitude of the loss of the Notre Dame could be rivaled by only a few nations in the world, and we simply aren't one of them.

Imagine the loss India would feel if the Taj Mahal were destroyed. Then imagine that it was 400 years older and smack dab in the center of New Delhi. That's what losing the Notre Dame would be.

Probably the Statue of Liberty in terms of symbolic value.

Perhaps losing the twin towers?

That’s up there.

quote:

Golden Gate Bridge?

That would suck, but it’s not anywhere near as iconic as Notre Dame.

quote:

Mt Rushmore

No one would get killed there.

quote:

US Capitol

Yes, that’s iconic.

quote:

Lincoln memorial?

I think the Washington Monument is more iconic than that. It was once the tallest building in the world until the Eiffel Tower was completed.

quote:

Sequoia trees?

No

quote:

Great Arch?

Definitely not.

And the answers are the Empire State Building, the Statue of Liberty, the White House, and the Capitol Building.

Eggroll House on Vets in Metairie. I'm pretty sure it's been there for about 700 years as well.

None. Nothing has stood in America for nearly 700 years.

Statue of Liberty or the White House are probably the only ones IMO.

The Twin Towers don't fit this bill on either account. America remembers them becuase of the terrorism that happened to them, but before 9/11 did anyone GAS about 2 tall office buildings in NYC? Before 9/11 if you'd ask a random swatch of strangers what the twin towers are or what is their significance I imagine MOST wouldn't have the slightest idea. The statue of liberty is known worldwide as an American icon.

What? The twin towers were iconic, dude. Any establishing shot of NYC in a TV show or movie without them was pretty much a failure. They were the fixture of the lower Manhattan skyline.

They we're synonymous with new York City. It's part of the reason why they were chosen in 93 and 01 to bring down. They were an iconic fixture of the the economy of new York and America in general.

Yes but without the architectural significance of Notre Dame.

Or maybe I should say intricacies.
