Thats the same reason I went with the single speed 29er. I ride on flat streets and bike paths only so multiple gears are not needed.

My 8300 was born as a mountain bike. I've got basically all terrain tires on it, but I've still got the short little stubby handlebars. I guess I should upgrade the handlebars before I give up on it.

One thing that does really annoy me - that bike has a hard time shifting from 2 to 3 on the big gears.

It may seem like a silly thing, but in addition to the other questions asked, figure out how you want to sit on the bike. Upright? Leaning forward? For example the Fuji Crosstown is a great series for medium riding if you like to sit upright.

Felt F85 for the road. Regret not buying the Assault Air Bike Classic when they had it $50 off and FS with the BearKomplex sand bag but deal was burned in few hours by time I got wind.

I have a 20 year old cannondale f500 that I’ve upgraded many times & still going strong. If it’ll ever stop raining, Id like to hit the many trails around here!

All the baws have had their F150's repossessed by now.

Cyclists own the streets now.

Trek 7.2 FX Hybrid. Yea I would go with hybrid for riding around the neighborhood. Does fine on the road and light trails. The Verge you a looking at would be fine. The seat on mine is a bit uncomfortable for long rides. Someone else recommended padded biking shorts. I have them too if I'm going to he riding for a few hours.

Same for me here in Houston. I was on the Cypress Creek trails last week but since Friday it's been rain, rain, rain.

One of the underrated features of my Jekyll is that you can adjust the seat height with a push of a lever.

I have about a 15 yr old Trek that's still in pretty decent shape.

Had a nice Trek mountain bike that was lost in a move/storage situation in 2011, along with a 1970's Columbia road bike.

I've got this old man Schwinn Voyageur I bought used for $75.00 now. Added a padded seat.

I have a F600 that is maybe 23 years old now. It is my sloppy weather hardtail now. I love hardtails and sloppy conditions. It has a very short travel Headshok that I have rebuilt a dozen times that and the frame make it like riding a granite bike. Great for technical singletrack. Outside a nearly as old Rocky Mountain Team Only HBO Elite frame it is my favorite mountain bike.
