I have a Trek 1000 series that I've had since 2012. It's carried me on a couple centuries and many metric centuries. I just got done using it for a short 8 mile ride around downtown.

Bike Shop says it needs to be retired, but I remember a time when it and my clothes were literally the only thing I had to my name. I'll never get rid of this bike.

No, a single speed you can stop pedaling and coast. While a fixed gear you cannot stop pedaling and the only way to get the cranks to stop turning would be to come to a stop

Wife rides single speed.

Houston to Austin 3x on this jewel plus it's my daily beater. My favorite bike cost a fraction of my others.

Cannondale Cujo. I wonder if cycling will continue after this is over or if all those new riders will park the bikes and go back to whatever it was they were doing.

I have two. a Trek hybrid and a Giant road bike. My advice is if you get the road bike, your next purchase should be a couple of pairs of bike shorts with the cushion built in to the seat. Otherwise you'll get about two blocks and never get on it again.

I might get a single speed for my next bike then. I don't need 21 gears.

Thats the same reason I went with the single speed 29er. I ride on flat streets and bike paths only so multiple gears are not needed.

I just got a cheap TT bike, and someone gave me a road bike for free. Might become a "bike guy."
