I'd rather read an Oweo thread.

I'm sure it is as I've said probably 5 times in the thread.

Mkay big guy. I'm glad you have enough saved, most don't. Thats a huge problem for this country and this shutdown is highlighting that.

What do they think people in the private sector do when they lose their jobs or get laid off?
Get a new job.
The federal workers are stuck in a limbo right now. It isn't the same.

While the narrative on the OT may make it seem different, a vast majority of this board probably falls into this category.

People are stupid and materialistic.

I don't think it is necessarily that for everyone.
For a lot of people, shite is just expensive and missing a month of pay would cause tough decisions to be made.

You say all government workers are stupid and lazy because of a few anecdotal suicide stories you claim to have heard.
You're not as smart as you think you are, and you're not edgy. You're just another a-hole.

I do partially agree with you, most americans should have enough saved up so that they could theoretically miss 3 paychecks and still be ok.
But then again, I am not there yet myself either. Im currently building up my savings. But if i missed 2 paychecks, I would be seriously fricked up. Im in Grad school, just got married, no kids, but wife has been out of work for 5 months. I have decent credit, still trying to build it up after making terrible decisions in college.
My goal is by 30 is to have 3 paychecks worth saved up. But i have 4 years until then. But until then, i know i know im a poor.

What about the federal workers who are "essential" and can't get a part time job?

You'd ideally want to have minimum 3 months of expenses saved, more like 6 months.
But most of these people aren't like you. You have a spouse new to the workforce and you aren't in it yet. You would assume most of these people are older since they are government workers so they should have savings.

I would be very surprised if you did, but I don't really care if you do.
