It is crazy how many people have little to no savings that work on the government. I know a guy who declared bankruptcy twice yet somehow still retains a security clearance. I mean regardless of job whether government or private sector you should have a savings account with a minimum of 3 months of living expenses. So many people have terrible money management skills and can't save anything if their life depended on it.

1. They have to pay the entirety of their insurance premiums at the moment, rather than just their normal employee share, so their health care costs have doubled while they have not gotten paid at all. It’s terrifying and on top of minimum payments (which at &15k is probably around $270 dollars or so) they are also being charged nearly $300 in interest. It’s a vicious cycle that involves one step forward and two steps back.

I'm not even much of a budget person but even I could live my same life for 2-3 months if I lost my job. Probably longer if I cut back on a lot of things. Hell I went 2 months without a check this past summer

Well it's completely different between private business and government, and no one is saying it's a good situation. However, you should be able to survive a month without getting paid.

when you have a guaranteed large paycheck you barely did anything to earn you dont appreciate the value of money so you spend it as fast as you get it with no thought to tomorrow.

Oh, I absolutely agree! Most of the middle class should be able to do this, unfortunately the working class tends to have difficulty building up their savings to that level.
Either way, if the person does not have that savings this should be a good wake up call for them to plan for the next shutdown.

It's time to stop using these folks as political pawns in this stupid game. Trump and his minions are not going to budge and Pelosi and her stooges are not going to budge either. Therefore, the "threat" of the government shutdown is not going to provide leverage for either side because neither side gives a frick at this point. Open the damn government, let these people get paid for work they are doing and start negotiating on border protection.

I'm a federal worker that is excepted. This means I still have to go to work and don't get paid. It would be hard for me to get a part time job, when the employer would know that I am going to bolt after a couple of weeks.
I'm okay for a while but I make more than the average federal salary. Most people, not just federal workers, live paycheck to paycheck. The prospect of going without 2 or more paychecks is highly stressful.
To sum it up, go frick yourself.
