I've seen news stories of suicide, maxed out credit cards, can't pay their bills, etc. They missed their second paycheck yesterday. What is wrong with these people? While missing a month of paychecks certainly wouldn't be ideal for me, I wouldn't be anywhere near killing myself over it or maxing out credit cards, it wouldn't even put that much of a damper on my financial plans.

I guess it's true that government workers are stupid and lazy.

Moral of the story is have an emergency fund, folks

Or, how about going out and getting a temporary, part-time job?

The dependence on other people by adults in this country is frightening.

The average American has $15k in credit card debt and lives paycheck to paycheck, I am not surprised at all that they can’t make ends meet.

Yeah it was around the holidays I'm sure some of these people could have gone and worked temp retail if they knew they were going to be in a bind. Again, it sucks for them they aren't getting paid, but they missed their second paycheck as of yesterday its not like they should be through their life savings already.

I missed my last weekly paycheck, and I’ve been getting about 25/40 hrs since the week of the 1st. Sucks, but damn I ain’t jumping off a bridge.

While I actually agree with you here, I still gave you a down-vote on principle.

That seems like something a pregnant woman would do because she can't keep her hormones in check. So congrats on being an emotional pussy

The majority of people don't have pensions so they should have extra cash flow monthly.

I'm also right here, as he admitted, so he dismissed logic in favor of emotion which is about the most beta thing one can do

I’m not in need financially and actually kind of wish I had this last month off. DoD is funded though.

75% of the workers in this country, federal workers or not, would be in a similar boat if they missed 2 paychecks.

While some people certainly spend more than they need to, there are many people in this country who have a very basic level of spending, and just enough income to meet it.

Most of the federal credit unions that serve the affected employees are offering interest free loans to cover their expenses during the shutdown.
