Still crazy to think about: the Great Wall of China is over 13,000 miles long. That’s nuts.

I hiked about 10 miles of of the closed of ruins of one of the sections. Was the coolest thing I’d never do again. So fricking dangerous and steep in parts. I did it on the 4th of July too back in 2015.

Funny story. Senior year of college I studied abroad in China. The advisor of my program said we’d do the Great Wall the next day by walking straight up and straight back down. So my friends and I did our usual bullshite of staying up until 4:00 drinking and going through nightclubs since the bus didn’t leave until 11:00 the next morning for the Great Wall.

So we get there around 1:00 the next day and I’m slightly hung over. It turns out we’re not going straight up and straight down. We had to hike 45 fricking towers which took all mother fricking day. I puked at (actually on) Tower 30, but the only path from there was forward. The douchebag advisor jokingly asked if I was ok at the end and I said “Go frick your mother you lying count.” He told me it would be half a mile when it was actually a 15 mile mountain trek. That was a count, and I stand by my statements.

So I tell my parents this, and they denounce me as being out of shape. The next year when I’m living and working in Beijing they come to visit me. They hike two, frickING TWO, towers and say they’re tired and want to go back. Needless to say I give them shite for the rest of the trip. Deservingly so since they had been beating me up for vomiting on the Wall for the past year and going 22 times the distance they did before pussing out.

It was t built all at once. The walls were added onto over at least 1000 years. If my memory serves me, it’s actually quite a few different walls actually.

Yep, look at the below.

No, they keep sharks in the water there. Chinese sharks.

Sure. Water is only 3 to 8 feet deep and surrounded by granite blocks at all angles as break water. Would be really easy to simply wade over them wouldn't it? While you're at it. A few teams of horses, trailers, etc... underwater granite should be no trouble at all.

Yep... stupid people of the past. As in last night.

There are sharks on the other end too. Really, it was a wall of sharks. Let that sink in. Sharks should absolutely be a major feature of any wall.

Not with archers ready to snipe you. Chinese don't mess around with rednecks in a canoe, you'd be a goner

You really think it would be easy to transfer an army of tens of thousands of men and horses carrying armor and weapons (while also maintaining rank) through somewhat shallow water?

The first challenge would be mobilizing an army just to get to that point. It's not like opposing forces were kept within a stones throw of the ocean.

They call them "Mongolians". Asians are great at math but apparently not so hot at spelling.
