After my wife asked where was the yellow first down line, I had to explain to her it is computer generated for TV and not on the actual field during a football game.

I've taught HS algebra for the last few years. I am here to tell you that over 75% of current teens truly believe 911 was created expressly for the tribute to 9-11. It's mind bottling to me that each year I'm teaching kids that either weren't born yet or were too young to know it was going on. Also, these kids legitimately think that all LIFE/history prior to the 1960s was in black & white instead of colors.
Sounds like you should be talking to the History teachers.

Was maybe a junior in college with my girlfriend at the time and we happened to be driving by the LA School for the Deaf, and she asked out "I wonder if they can read Braille?" I just shook my head and said "They're frickin' deaf, not blind too!"
Hilarity ensued.

He saw one with "infrared heating element" and thought it was pronounced "In-Fraired" instead of "In-Fruh-Red".
I've got a buddy at work that has an M.S. and an MBA that refers to it as "In-Fraired" as well.

My brother, for years, thought Spinal Tap was a real band.

Just last night, I had to explain the difference between exasperating and exacerbating. No, you're not exasperating the situation. I won't name names, but it was in bed and this person was lying next to me.

My mom will create new words. She is old now so I just let her say what she wants.
New-tra-ments = Nutrients
Idear = Idea (this one drives me nuts)
